I was messing around in the shop tonight and grabbed a couple 3.73 gears. One was a 8.8 and the other a 7.5. I noticed the 8.8 felt lighter and then weighed both. Well the 8.8 was 3.5 lbs lighter. Is this true on all of the gear sets? Has anyone ever wieghed these? Just seeing if the 8.8 will be lighter on rotating weight. All the guys around here run the 7.5 but I am trying to get something faster.
Thanks

I,ve never weighed them but if both are 3.73 the 8.8 will be heavier. I've weighed the car after changing rear ends and there's a big pound difference.

the total housing might weight more but he weighed the gear set itself and found it lighter .

Yea, I read his post. I have some gear sets out here I can weigh. He has me curious now. BUT...even if the ring gear is somehow lighter, I know the carrier will be heavier than a 7.5. If you're trying to get rid of some turning weight, weigh everything that turns in a 7.5 vs a 8.8.

All I have at the shop is an 8.8 gear. I would weight it all but I cant at the moment. If they 8.8 is just as light or lighter then I will definately be looking some up shortly. Just alot more options on gearing for the 8.8 and I have to add alot of weight to meet minimum anyways. So let me know if you weigh them.
