Josh McGuire Returns Home Following Speedweek Visits to Screven and East Bay

(GRAYSON, KENTUCKY) Josh McGuire and his #41 Dirt Late Model team kicked off their version of the 2012 racing season down south during “Speedweeks” in Georgia and Florida. From February 10-18, Josh entered seven high-profile programs at two different venues: Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia and East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Florida. With primary sponsor U. S. Steel on board for the trip, Josh put his #41 MasterSbilt racecar in the starting field on five different occasions.

The popular Grayson, Kentucky driver was especially fast during the annual ‘Winternationals’ at East Bay last week. In the six Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series showdowns held at the Tampa area facility, Josh advanced into five main events and posted a best finish of thirteenth on Tuesday night, February 14. With many of the finest Dirt Late Model drivers in the country in attendance at the “Clay by the Bay” throughout the week, it was a challenge just to transfer into the A-Main each night. The only time Josh missed out on a feature at East Bay was in the $10,000 to win finale, where he missed a coveted transfer spot by a mere position in his B-Main. His finishes from the trip are noted below, but you can read a detailed race-by-race recap online at www.JoshMcGuireRacing.com.

February 10-11 | Screven (GA) Motor Speedway, WoO | $20,000 to win (DNS)
February 13 | East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, Lucas Oil | $5,000 to win (21st)
February 14 | East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, Lucas Oil | $5,000 to win (13th)
February 15 | East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, Lucas Oil | $7,000 to win (23rd)
February 16 | East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, Lucas Oil | $7,000 to win (18th)
February 17 | East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, Lucas Oil | $10,000 to win (20th)
February 18 | East Bay (FL) Raceway Park, Lucas Oil | $10,000 to win (DNS)

“We had a good car most nights during Speedweeks, but I just didn’t get timed in fast enough during qualifying at East Bay,” quoted McGuire tonight via telephone. “The new dirt that they put on the track had a lot of sand in it and the racetrack was really hard to pass on early in the night. If you could qualify on the front row of your heat race, you were in good shape for the rest of the night. But, if you were like me and qualified on the third row, it was a dogfight each night to make the show.”

“Even though we may not have achieved the finishes we were looking for when we left home, it was great to start off the season down south and gauge where your program is against some of the best teams in the country,” Josh went on to say. “I have to thank Scott Coleman and everyone at U. S. Steel for their continued support. It is an honor to represent such a great company and I look forward to working with U. S. Steel in some of the crown jewel races coming up later this year!”

The Josh McGuire Racing (JMR) team will take the better part of a month off before continuing their 2012 campaign on Saturday night, March 17 at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The 36th Annual ‘Spring 50’ will be held at the 1/2-mile, Cincinnati area speedplant on March 17 and a $5,000 winner’s check will be on the line. In his last visit to Florence, Josh finished a strong runner-up in the ‘Fall 50’ last October behind only winner Scott James.
