CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season and the run for the $10,000 Championship, will open on March 26. But several sanctioned tracks will open before that date to give their competitors in the Crate Late Model Division an opportunity to race in some “pre-season” action to prepare for the National points run.

According to track web sites, ten of the 19 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks will have their 2012 season openers within the next five weeks. Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS will open this Saturday night.

The March 2-3 weekend will see Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS opening on March 2, while Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA opens on March 3. Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS open on March 10.

Four NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks will open for pre-season action on March 17 that include Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Deep South Speedway in Loxley, AL, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, and Malden Speedway in Malden, MO.

Beginning on March 26, drivers at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks across the country will begin earning National points, as the 27-week 2012 season begins. Drivers at all tracks will compete against each other through a points system where each driver’s best 14 weekly totals count towards their season total.

The nine remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks will open after the 2012 season for National points begins. Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN and New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA open on March 31 during the first week of the Weekly Racing Series season.

Penton Raceway in Penton, AL will open on April 13, while Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, and West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO open on April 14. Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will open on April 21. 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA has not yet announced the date of their 2012 season opener.

A driver may race as a many times as they can each week, but their highest single event point total will count for that week’s total. Drivers can also earn up to 100 bonus points that can be earned two different ways, and added on to their 14-week point total.

Bonus points are awarded in 25-point increments by competing for four straight weeks at a single track, or by competing in a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event. A driver can earn as much as 800 points during the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season. Tie-breakers will begin with total number of wins.
