Ponderosa Speedway 2012 Season Rapidly Approaching; Season Opener Goes April 6

Junction City, KY- February 28, 2012- Ponderosa Speedway track lease-owner Kevin Colston, track promoter Larry Yantz, and co-promoters Chad and Sarah Yantz are set to begin the 2012 racing season at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval with their ambitious 2012 schedule that includes 31 events on the 2012 racing docket. The racing will take place with some events on Friday evening, while others will be on Saturday evenings. Friday nights will host 22 events, while there will be 9 events that have Saturday evening dates.

Ponderosa Speedway will feature four divisions of weekly racing competition during the 2012 racing campaign, with those being Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks. Regular show events will see the Late Models race for $1,200 to win and $100 to start, Modifieds for $600 to win and $75 to start, Sportsman for $300 to win and $50 to start, and Street Stocks $200 to win and $40 to start.

A couple of preseason test and tune open practice days will also take place, with the first one a Saturday afternoon session on March 24 from 2:00 p.m. until dark, with the other practice session set for Friday evening March 30 from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The 40th full season of racing competition at Ponderosa Speedway will officially kick off with the season opener for all four divisions on Friday April 6. The schedule is subject to additions, changes, or deletions, with some special nights of activities planned that will be announced at a later date for the adult race fans and the racers, along with some activities for the racers and race fans that are the future of the sport, the children, throughout the course of the 2012 racing season.

By the time the opening night to the 2012 season takes place on Friday April 6, patrons and supporters of Ponderosa Speedway will notice such improvements as some sprucing up of the buildings on the ground with fresh paint and new trim. The outside retaining of the racetrack will get a fresh coat of white paint, along with a new scale area that will be constructed in the infield area, along with some other minor improvements and upgrades as well.

The 2012 season opening racing program will consist of a full racing program for Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, and Street Stocks. The Late Model division will race for $1,200 to win and $100 to start in a 25 lap feature event, along with time trials and qualifying heat race events. The Modified division will compete for $600 to win and $75 to start in a 20 lap feature event, along with time trials and qualifying heat race events. The Sportsman division will also time trial and run heat race events, with their feature event being 15 laps in distance and paying $300 to the winner, while the Street Stocks will draw for heat race starting positions and partake in a 12 lap feature event that will pay $200 to win. RACEceivers are mandatory in all divisions and must be in use at all times.
