Lake Cumberland Speedway Slings the Clay with 2012 Season Opener on March 24
Burnside, KY-March 18, 2012- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove and his staff have completed all the practice laps for the preseason and are now ready to begin the 2012 racing campaign at the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval, with the 32nd Annual Season Opener event set for this Saturday March 24.
The March 24 event will be the 2012 Season Opener for Lake Cumberland Speedway and will see the Modified division take centerstage, racing for $600 to win. Joining the Modifieds on the Saturday March 24 racing program will be Super Dirt Stocks racing for $300 to win (8 car minimum), Sportsman racing for $250 to win (8 car minimum), and Front Wheel Drives racing for $100 to win (8 car minimum). The Super Late Model division will not be in competition on March 24, however, any Super Late Model racers that want to get some practice laps with their cars will be able to do so.
Activities for the Saturday March 24 season opening event will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m. There will be a mandatory drivers meeting at 6:00 p.m., with practice set to begin immediately after the drivers meeting, followed by time trials and green flag racing. For the March 24 event, general admission ticket prices will be $12 for adults, children ages 6 to 10 will be $5, while children ages 5 and under will be admitted free with a paid adult. A pit pass will cost $30.
Lake Cumberland Speedway will feature five divisions of weekly racing competition throughout the 2012 racing campaign. Featured divisions at the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s House of Hardcore Mayhem” will be Super Late Models, Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks, Sportsman, and Front Wheel Drives. Track champions from the 2011 racing season are Johnny Wheeler in Super Late Models, Tommy Gregory in Modifieds, Timmy McMullin in Super Dirt Stocks, and James Petrey in Front Wheel Drives.
Lake Cumberland Speedway is located at 1 Racetrack Road, just outside of Burnside, KY, just past the entrance to General Burnside Island State Park. Brandon Hardgrove is the track promoter and presents dirt track racing entertainment on Saturday evenings. The track is located on Racetrack Road off of US Hwy. 127 South, only about five miles south of Somerset, KY.
