SEASON OPENING FASTRAK NORTHEAST “SUPER NATIONALS I” NEARING AT ROARING KNOB MARCH 31-APRIL 1; ADDITIONAL BONUSES ANNOUNCED
By Mike Leone

March 21, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Pulaski, PA)…The 2012 Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series opener is quickly approaching. The earliest scheduled opener in what will be the sixth season of competition has been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April 1. It won’t just be any opener either as the “Super Nationals I” will open the 25-event 2012 slate!

The “Super Nationals” will feature a $3,000 to-win main event plus a $1,200 to-win “Wheelman” bonus feature for the first 24 non-qualifiers. Another feature event paying $500 to-win will also be run for the next group of non-qualifiers, if at least 12 cars remain. The $1,200 to-win race will utilize the standard Touring payoff. This means at least 48 drivers will get to run a feature utilizing Touring payoffs! The same format will be used when the “Super Nationals II” takes place at Roaring Knob on October 19-20.

Not only will drivers be battling for the season’s richest purses and important early and closing points toward the Northeast Touring Championship, but there will be a lot of bonuses up for grabs. High Gear Speed Shop’s owner Doug Horton will award $200 to the fast qualifier, and has gathered additional monies that will be awarded to random finishers in 40-lap A main feature! Currently an additional $640 is available with the goal of at least $800 (see list below).

Sprout’s Pick-A-Part has posted a total of $200 going to the heat race winners. This amount will be split up evenly depending on the number of heat races run, i.e. $50 each if four heats are run, $40 each if five heat races are run.

The inaugural K&N “Cold Air Induction Dash” will be run. The four-lap event will pay the winner a $100 K&N certificate, $50 to the second place finisher, and $25 cash to the third and fourth place finishers. Points will be awarded toward the overall K&N “Cold Air Induction Championship”.

The Utsinger’s Towing Hoosier Tire Giveaway program is back for a second straight year. The last running car on the lead lap will receive a free FASTRAK Hoosier spec tire!

The Brake Man’s “Tough Brake of the Night” program will debut. The hard luck racer selected by FASTRAK Northeast Officials will receive three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any Brake Man purchase.

Precise Racing Products will award a $100 Platinum Gift Card to the “Pedal Down” Hard Charger, who advances the most positions from his or her starting position. This will also be the debut of this program as well.

Not only will the event award points toward the 2012 Touring Series Championship, but also separate “Super Nationals” points will be awarded. A top 10 point fund payout is the goal. High Gear Speed Shop will also give away a 2013 Warrior Chassis to one lucky driver that participates in both events. The value of this chassis is nearly $5,000! More of this will be announced in the future.

“We’re really getting anxious to kickoff 2012,” expressed sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “This event is really coming together nicely, and there are additional bonuses we are still working on that will be announced in the near future. I can’t thank Roaring Knob’s Rick Jones enough for stepping up to offer this Super Nationals concept and Doug Horton for being behind the event 100% and helping to obtain additional monies.”

Each event will also be run under the qualifying/time trial format as used in past Grand National events held in the Northeast. Qualifying will set the heat race lineups with a redraw based on the number of heat races run. The A main feature will be 40 laps, “Wheelman” B feature 25 laps, and the C feature 20 laps, if enough cars warrant.

“We know it’s early for a lot of racers, but we’ve gotten a great response to date,” stated sixth year Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “We expect just about every one of our Touring regulars from 2011 to return full-time to the Series. Several new racers have made it known they are joining the Touring Series full-time in 2012 along with some whispers o a few Super Late Model racers that may make some appearances throughout the year. We’ve put together our biggest and richest schedule ever and the programs around the schedule should make for an exciting 2012!”

Five Northeast Touring Series events have been run all-time at Roaring Knob. Bobby Powell won the inaugural event on June 26, 2009. Mike Pegher, Jr. began a three race win streak on June 26, 2010 winning that event, the “Fall Fest” on October 8, 2010, and then the show with the Lucas Oil Late Models on April 30, 2011. Pegher didn’t compete in last year’s Touring Series finale to prep for the next night’s Grand Nationals, while Robbie Blair captured the victory. The elder Blair also won Night 2 of the Grand Nationals at Roaring Knob in 2010.

In the five-year history of FASTRAK Northeast, there have been 73 Northeast Touring Series races contested with 30 different winners all-time. Mike Pegher, Jr. leads the way with 13 victories to Max Blair’s 12 followed by (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) Barton, Bobby Powell, John Lacki, and David Scott with four, Steve Dixon and Josh Holtgraver at three, Alan Dellinger, Dan Angelicchio, Joe Martin, and Robbie Blair with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, Jim Frank, Mike Blose, Jonathan Davenport, Gary Knollinger, Dusty Hamrick, Bud Watson, Russell King, George Kowatic, Ryan Montgomery, and Wayne Robertson with one victory.

Roaring Knob will actually host the second Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance Northeast Touring Series event on Friday, April 20 as part of the Lucas Oil Super Late Model event. The Series’ third stop at Roaring Knob will take place for the annual “Spectacular Fall Fest” on September 28-29 for a $2,000 to-win event before the “Super Nationals II” on October 19-20.
