CARTERSVILLE, GA – It’s time for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division to head for Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS for the 3rd Annual $5,000-to-win Rumble On The Gumbo 75 with practice on Thursday night, Qualifying and Heat Races on Friday night, and B-Main Races and the 75-lap Main Event on Saturday night.

The winds of change will be in the air, as drivers will face a different ¼-mile black gumbo clay oval, and there will be wholesale changes in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings after the checkered flag falls in the main event on Saturday night.

The Rumble On The Gumbo 75 will be Round 4 of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour after the first three races were held in February at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. Several drivers at the top of the series point standings will not be making the trip to the Mississippi Delta, and several more drivers will be looking to move up in the standings.

Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, SC won Rounds 2 and 3 and left East Bay Raceway Park with the point lead. Franklin’s AES Racing Team, including the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion and Rumble On The Gumbo 75 defending champion Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC are already qualified for a rained out and rescheduled race in the Carolinas.

The second-place driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings, Jack Nosbisch Jr. of Riverview, FL, is an East Bay weekly driver and is not expected at Greenville Speedway. It appears that six of the Top 10 drivers after East Bay will not compete for the $20,000 NeSmith Cup. The Rumble On The Gumbo 75 will set the table for the 2012 Championship run.

That brings us to the third-place driver, who is just 34 points behind Franklin. Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is currently third and just by starting the main event would put him on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings. Turner will not miss a run at his favorite track on the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS schedule.

Turner has two career wins in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series competition, and both of those have come at Greenville Speedway. This weekend will mark Turner’s 128th consecutive race in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. Known as the “Ironman,” Turner has competed in every NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS race held since the series inception in 2005.

Good fortune has been smiling on Turner so far in 2012. He recently learned that he and his wife Brandi are expecting their second child and the couple learned this week that the new bumble of joy will be a boy. Baby needs new shoes, and a $20,000 Championship check will buy a lot of shoes!

Even though Turner has a good chance to take over the point lead, there are drivers behind him in the points that say “Not so fast!” Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN is just 14 points behind Turner in the standings, and Greenville Speedway has also been good to Gentry in the past.

Gentry took a Greenville Speedway victory last season on his way to a close second-place finish in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings. Gentry will continue the Research and Development of the $150 Bilstein Spec Shock at Greenville Speedway, as he did at East Bay Raceway Park with successful results.

Other drivers expected at Greenville Speedway looking to race their way into the Top 5 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings are Mark Tice of Avon, MS, Chris Cantrell of Chester, SC, Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, and Anthony White of Clinton, TN.

Tice, also known as the “Avon Assassin,” is currently ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point standings and Greenville Speedway is his home track. Cantrell is one of the leading candidates for the 2012 $5,000 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award. Stokes, aka “Dr. Dirt,” took a series win last year at Greenville Speedway.

Edge was the 2011 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS and finished fourth in the point standings. Lee finished fifth in the series point standings last year for the second straight year. White, aka “The Dirty White Boy,” is the new Stinger House Car driver, and the former Southern Nationals Champion will be making his first appearance at Greenville Speedway.

The Touring drivers will face some tough competition from Greenville Speedway and Mississippi regulars that compete in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for non-touring drivers. Greenville Speedway was represented by three drivers in the top ten of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region point standings.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS was the West Region Runner-Up last season, missing the championship by one point. Bobby Jordan, aka “Big Nasty,” finished fifth in the West Region points last year, and Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS was tenth. Other top local favorites are Brent Barrett of Cleveland. MS, John Polasini of Leland, MS, and Chad Washington of Greenville, MS.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL had a pair of fast time awards last season in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series competition at Greenville Speedway, and Ashley Newman of Mercer, TN took the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Gumbo Nationals win last year at Greenville Speedway.

The Rumble On The Gumbo 75 will also be the first race of the 2012 season at Greenville Speedway, and all drivers will face a different race track this season for the first time. Greenville Speedway now has concrete retaining walls at both ends of the race track in the corners, and the backstretch has been widened out to give the track a new “D” shape.

The action at Greenville Speedway for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour begins on Thursday night with a practice session. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the practice will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday night, the gates open at 4 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 7:15 p.m. and racing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will compete in Qualifying to earn starting spots for the Heat Races that will fill the front of the field.

On Saturday night, the gates open at 3 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Check-In from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:45 p.m., and racing is scheduled for 7 p.m. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will compete in B-Main Races to fill the back of the 24-car starting field for the $5,000-to-win 3rd Annual Rumble On The Gumbo 75 later in the evening.
