Brian Birkhofer Charges to Runner-Up in Thaw Brawl; Heads East to Virginia
(MUSCATINE, IOWA) The Birkhofer Racing team ventured to the Land of Lincoln on Saturday, April 7 for a stand-alone UMP DIRTcar Series event at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois. A strong field of Midwestern competitors converged on the 1/4-mile bullring to vie for the $5,000 top prize. Brian Birkhofer qualified well in time trials and later ran second in heat race action. The Muscatine, Iowa ace then started the 40-lap 'Thaw Brawl' from the seventh spot and muscled his way past five competitors en route to an impressive runner-up performance behind only winner Dennis Erb, Jr. Complete results from LaSalle can be accessed by logging onto www.lasallespeedway.com.
Brian and the #15b team will now make the long trek to the pristine Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Virginia on April 13-14 for the 3rd Annual ‘Commonwealth 100.’ This year’s version of the mega-event will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and will boast a $25,000 winner’s share. Qualifying and heat races will take place at VMS on Friday night, while the consolation races, $3,000 to win Non-Qualifiers Race, and the 100-lap ‘Commonwealth 100’ are all slated for Saturday evening.
The two-day extravaganza will be taped by the high-definition cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios for broadcast on SPEED, NBC Sports Network, and MAVTV. Brian has attended both previous ‘Commonwealth 100’ events and finished twenty-third in the final rundown in both 2010 and 2011.
