In my shaw setup book it says mount j bar 5.25 inches up on frame but also says 3 inches of split between mounting points but with a quick change mounted a half inch above pinion it ends up being 4.75 inches of split so my question is which measurement do you use 3 inches or 5.25 up on the frame

The pinion on a q/c is about 1 1/2inches lower than the one on a 9in.

Its tough to find a pinion mount for a q/c that goes up as high as a 9in. The one i have is just about even w/ the pinion on the 9in and that is @ the highest point on my q/c mount.

Sounds like you want to try to find a mount that goes higher or just set it as high on pinion side as possible and go w/ the split they are suggesting.

On our Shaw we set the J Bar like book says and had same split you did. We lowered the frame side to about 3.5 inches split which makes the bar pretty flat and have run it that way ever since. Some guys like alot of angle in bar, but we feel car is better with with less angle. Be sure to recheck the rear offset as you will have changed that as you flatten the bar.

Raise j-bar on pinion to 1 1/2 in. above yolk on QC and adjust frame side until you have 3 1/2in.
of split. This is where we are right now on UMP TIRES.
