Jeep Van Wormer Earns Top Five in Season Opener; Sees Rain at Eldora

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and his #55 team opened up their 2012 campaign on Friday night, April 13 by making their first-ever visit to the Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio. The American Late Model Series (ALMS) sanctioned a $2,000 to win program on Friday at MRP. Jeep timed in fifth fastest in ALMS qualifying and later finished a strong second in his heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the third row in the A-Main, Jeep moved up to the third position and actually grabbed the second spot before an untimely caution flag was thrown. At the conclusion of his season opener, the Pinconning, Michigan native found himself fourth in the final rundown behind only winner Brian Ruhlman, Wayne Chinn, and Duane Chamberlain.

On Saturday evening, the ALMS tour was scheduled to take the Iron Motorsports team to the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for another $2,000 to win showdown. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had a different plan and the program at the "Big E" was wiped out due to persistent rain showers. Complete results from Moler on Friday can be accessed online at www.molerracewaypark.com.

“We had a good run for our first night out this year,” commented Van Wormer this week. “If the cautions would have fallen differently, I think we could have been a first or second place car. It seemed like each time I was in position to make a move, the caution would come out and then I had to start all over again. It is a shame Eldora rained-out on Saturday, we always love racing there and it would have been great to have gotten some laps.”

Jeep and the Iron Motorsports team are now scheduled to enjoy the next several weekends away from the racetrack. The next event on their shortened 2012 schedule will be Friday night, May 11 at the Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, Michigan. Jeep will battle the cars and stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Hartford to vie for the $10,000 top prize.
