Dennis Erb, Jr. Dominates Much of Commonwealth 100 Prior to Flat; Readies for Lucas Double-Dip

(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) The Dennis Erb Racing team ventured east with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on April 13-14 for the 3rd Annual 'Commonwealth 100.' The $25,000 to win mega-event was held at the pristine Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Virginia and the high-definition cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios were in the house to tape the show for broadcast on SPEED, NBC Sports Network, and MAVTV. On Friday night during preliminary action, Dennis Erb, Jr. timed in seventh fastest in his group during qualifying and later finished a strong second in his loaded heat race.

When Saturday rolled around at VMS, Dennis started from the inside of the third row in the 100-lap main event. The Carpentersville, Illinois ace drove to the front of the stellar field early in the race and grabbed the top spot on lap nineteen. Dennis dominated virtually the entire 'Commonwealth 100,' but a flat right rear tire on lap 89 sent him pitside for new rubber. Dejected from missing out on the hefty $25,000 payday, Dennis soldiered on to finish out the race in the thirteenth position. Following the disappointing finish to the 'Commonwealth 100,' he currently sits sixth in the latest version of the LOLMDS point standings. “It is still pretty heartbreaking even a couple of days later,” quoted Erb this week via telephone. “We had a great car and I thought I was being easy enough on the tires to make them last 100 laps. I think all of those cautions really hurt us; all of the restarts couldn’t have helped our tire situation out any. We just came up eleven laps shy and it is really disappointing because our stuff was so good. Hopefully, we can run up front again at Roaring Knob and Hagerstown this weekend and finish the deal this time.”

The #28 team will look to put the ‘Commonwealth 100’ disappointment behind them this upcoming weekend (April 20-21) in two more Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series battles in the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland. On Friday night, the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania will play host to a $10,000 to win showdown, while the historic Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland will do the same on Saturday evening.
