View Full Version : NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Point Battle Heads To Albany Motor Speedway

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The point battle for the NeSmith Cup and the $20,000 prize that goes to the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion heads to Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA for a pair of races this Friday night and Saturday night. Rounds 4 and 5 will be the first visit for the series to Albany Motor Speedway.

The Friday night race will be a 40-lap $2,000-to-win event, with a 50-lap $2,500-to-win race on tap for Saturday night. Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings after winning the last two of the first three races held this season.

Franklin will lead a stout AES Racing Team to Albany Motor Speedway that also includes the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC and Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC, who finished seventh in the 2011 series point standings. There are several drivers looking to establish themselves as title contenders with successful Albany Motor Speedway results.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is 34 points behind Franklin, and will looking to keep his Ironman streak alive with his 128th and 129th consecutive appearances in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series events. Turner is the only driver that has competed in every series event held since its inception in 2005.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN is 48 points behind Franklin. Gentry finished second in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS points chase after winning the title in 2006 and 2007.

Phillip Cobb of Apollo Beach, FL leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings with an 18-point lead over Chris Cantrell of Chester, SC. VP Racing Fuels will pay a $5,000 bonus at the end of the season to the highest finishing rookie driver in the point standings. Pierce McCarter of Sevierville, TN, Jake Teague of Oliver Springs, TN, and Cody Kierre of Beebe, AR round out the Top 5 in the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings.

Mark Tice of Avon, MS, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL, Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, the 2011 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Anthony White of Clinton, TN, Larry Harrod of Plains, GA, and Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS are also looking to move up in the points chase at the Albany Motor Speedway races.

Harrod and Cobb tuned up for the two NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division events this Friday night and Saturday night by running one-two respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event at Albany Motor Speedway on April 14.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring drivers will face a tough local contingent of Albany Motor Speedway drivers that compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. Stevie Blanchette of Marianna, FL and Kelly Walker of Moultrie, GA have also taken weekly victories at Albany Motor Speedway.

Other top local favorites expected include Kit and Tristan Sealy of Moultrie, GA, Lavon Sloan of Moultrie, GA, Travis Stone of Baconton, GA, Jeffrey Summerlin of Moultrie, GA, Kyle Bridges of Moultrie, GA, Steven Roberts of Jesup, GA, Garrett Bullington of Albany, GA, Jared Evans of Cairo, GA, Robbie Metts of Albany, GA, and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL.

Race fans will also have an opportunity to get into the action on Saturday night at Albany Motor Speedway with the “Ride For Life” to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Race fans will be able to bid for a six-lap ride around Albany Motor Speedway in a specially built two-seat dirt late model race car.

Larry Harrod, Stevie Blanchette, Kelly Walker, Kit Sealy and Skip Pannell of Albany, GA have donated their time and talent to be put up during an auction at intermission on Saturday night where race fans will have the opportunity to bid for rides with these drivers in the Ride For Life dirt late model race car.

Tickets will also be for sale for additional opportunities to take the Ride For Life through special drawings. All of the proceeds from the driver auctions and ticket sales will stay in the Albany, GA area and benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Each night, gates open at 4 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Registration and Pre-Race Technical Inspection from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. with racing scheduled for 7 p.m. There will be a complete show each night for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS with Qualifying, B-Main Races, and the main events.
