Reminders from the AMRA Office

MT. ALTO, WV- The American Auto Racing Association (AMRA) is off to a great start in 2012 according to organization president Larry Keeter. "Car Counts have been great, especially in the modified division in 2012. Coming into the season, we were really concerned about the rising costs of racing and gasoline prices. Our organization remains strong and the response from the numbers indicate that our philosophy of having 'consistent rules for all' is the only way to keep racers at the track."
Keefer again stressed his thanks to all AMRA sponsors, all participants, and all of the fans. "Track owners had concerns about getting the fans out, but we have seen great crowds so far in 2012. We don't want to take anything for granted. We appreciate everyone that helps keep the sport alive and well!"
Some concerns of the AMRA are some of the elaborate nosepieces and a limited few trying to push the integrity of the rules. Nosepieces can be no longer than 42" and must end at the centerline of the front hubs, where the hood begins. Nosepieces cannot be concave, but must be flat with the 1" tolerance from side to side.
Keefer noted that most members are completely within the rules and that some members had to make adjustments last week to comply. No lips can extend beyond the reach of the nosepiece either in fabricated or plastic formed noses. "The problem was that the nose is not part of the hood. Under the existing rules, the nose and hood are well defined and consistent with rules in other organizations, especially UMP."
While the nosepiece will be an area inspectors will be looking at the next few weeks in the modifieds, the roof rake will be focused upon in the AMRA Late model division. As per definition the roof must be mounted level and within the "A through J" guidelines under the late model section of rules-"Roof and Roof Supports".
Additonally, the roof must be between 45" and 48" from the ground and no higher at its highest point.
Director of Racing Scott Wolfe said, "We want to make clear--without a doubt-- how the temporary permits work. Drivers can purchase only one temporary permit at the cost of $15. The next racing event under AMRA sanction the driver must purchase a full AMRA license at a cost of $75. Drivers that remotely think that they may run more than one AMRA event should realize that buying the $75 license up front will save them the $15 temp fee. Otherwise drivers may be faced wtih a $15 plus $75 equals $90 if not buying the license at their first AMRA race."
"To further clarify this." said Wolfe. "You cannot buy two temporary permits. The philosophy is that we would like everyone to join our organization, but specifically we want to see the benefits of the AMRA purses going to AMRA members."
Starting May 4, 2012 all sponsor decals must be on all cars and located appropriately in a prominent location. "If there are no decals, then there will be no points," noted Keefer. "Again, our sponsors are the driving force behind our success and behind the heart of the AMRA point fund. Please support the sponsors that support the racers, whether you are a fan, driver, or owner."
Although not specifically a problem of the AMRA, this is a problem for any racer. Many scoring mistakes come from numbers that "are not clear, too small, or consist of colors that blend in with the colors of the car."
"As a courtesy to all scorers, please use contrasting colors with at least a one inch border on all numbers," said Wolfe. "Wraps, although they look great up close are two dimensional, and numbers traditionally don't stand out. From 100 feet numbers are often hard to see. At 100 feet and at 100 miles per hour, the problem compounds."
The AMRA would like all numbers to be Light on Dark with a contrasting border or Dark on light with a contrasting border to define the numbers. Numbers must be on the doors and the roof.
Octane Racing Products will be on board as a sponsor of AMRA in 2012 and will add $1000 to the AMRA National Points fund, again making the modified national points' $5000 to win. Octane will add contingency awards in random drawings at the banquet to racers displaying the Octane Racing Products decals.
