BOYD SPEEDWAY RESULTS 4-27-2012
(RINGGOLD, GA) Before racing got underway at the 1/3 mile clay oval fans, racers and officials took a moment to remember it was one year ago today that the south and this area would experience something they would never forget. One year ago tornadoes tore through many parts of our racing community leaving many with damaged or completely destroyed homes. Thankfully no one at that time was seriously injured and many have rebuilt others are still in that process.

It was Heat race time as the B-Hobby division was called out first, Heat winners would be a pair of Brook’s Ronnie taking the first and Dallas taking the second. Up next brought the Crate Late Models to the racing surface in Heat #1 “The Flying Welshan would prove to be the best and in Heat #2 Soddy Daisy’s Jerry Coffman settle for the outside pole starting position for the nights 20 lap feature by taking the 10 lap heat victory. Next would bring the A-Hobby division for what turned out to be a “rock-em sock-em” crash fest. Arva Brooks would take the victory, but would see a lap 5 crash that would send #22 Ricky Wagner, #54 Eric Gann and #99 Scott Gravitt digging for their tools in the pit area for repairs. In Heat #2 a caution free race was won by #37 Chuck Cooper. In Steel-Headed Late Model #71 Pierce McCarter would race from his 7th starting position to take the victory over Brian Jackson and Kevin Gibson. In Heat #2 the fans would see a pair of veteran’s battle for laps side by side before Mike Weeks prevailed over Lamar Scoggins. The final Heat of the night saw James Dykes win over Richard Hickman in the FWD division.

In the nights first Feature the B-hobby’s would see a pair of Brook’s battle from the start with Dallas Brooks taking the early lead over Ronnie Brooks. An early caution on lap 1 would send # 53 Chip Henry and father and son Alvin and Taylor Sewell to the pit area. Then on lap 5 the field got a lucky break as both Ronnie and leader Dallas Brooks would leave the racing surface with engine problems. This handed the lead over to #38 Jeff Irvin and he never looked back as he went on to capture his first victory in a long while over #15 Boonie Gulett, #T19 Thomas Gilbert, H2 Hunter McKenzie and #87 Corey Sanders.

In Crate Late Model Feature Jason Welshan would seek his third straight victory while Jerry Coffman would challenge from the outside pole starting position. The two would put on a fierce battle until lap 13 when Georgia’s Jeff Smith would motor around Coffman for second. But in the closing laps Smith could get close but never close enough to take the lead. Welshan would take that third straight victory over Smith, Coffman, Grayson York and David Tindell.

In A-Hobby Arva Brooks and Chuck Cooper would bring the field to the green, as Cooper took the early lead a lap one caution would reline the field for the second start. Cooper would continue to lead as he looked back to see a pair of father and son Brook’s coming fast. On lap 6 Booger Brooks would assume the lead and go on to take the season sweep so far taking every feature event. Following Brooks would see Cooper, Arva Brooks, and 1st Steve Tate battling from his 19th starting position to take 4th. Rounding out the top five was #1G Gen Hulgan Jr and also taking home the extra $200 from Hitching Post Flee Market for being the lucky winner of the top five pill pull.

It was now time to bring the Steel-Headed Late Models to the front starting positions. As Sevierville’s Pierce McCarter and Friendsville’s Mike Weeks would bring the sixteen competitors to the green flag. Weeks would take the early lead until a lap 6 spin by Chatsworth, Georgia’s Dakota Boling would bring out the first caution. It wouldn’t take long until Mr. Boling would spin again in the same spot to bring out the second caution and placing him in the pits for the second spin rule. Weeks would battle with his heat race runner-up Lamar Scoggins as he piloted Richard Austin’s A19 on this night. It was on lap 15 that Scoggins would make his move under Weeks and never look back as a battle for forth commenced between Jamie Perry and Kevin Gibson. Scoggins would take his first victory of the year followed by Weeks, Mike Tinker, Jamie Perry and Kevin Gibson.

The final feature of the evening would see Richard Hickman driving that familiar Red, White and Blue #51 to victory lane over Daniel Burnette and Josh Kilgore. Great night of racing as the racing was all completed before 10 pm once again. Next week brings the S.R.R.S SUPER LATE MODELS to Boyd Speedway for their first visit of the 2012 season.
