I have a older grt latemodel(98) and was wondering how to tell if it has the correct spendles on it,i dont know the history of the car so i dont know if they are right or wrong and
i've noticed they have different options for the car,also would the setup sheet on there website be close to what i should start with? Thanks in advance

Unless something has been changed on your car, you are on the 96 black spindle front geometry. Just measure the height between the top and bottom ball joint, call GRT and they will get you a spindle..

Thanks for the info,should it have something better on it or was the 96 black just the standard stuff,i dont have one bent i am trying to learn a little about the fronts of these cars
without breaking the bank,last time i talked to grt they told me it was so old that they couldnt help because they didnt know what had been done to the car over the years!! i bet
if i was buying a new one they would want to talk,thanks again

Try them again...We have a 1998 that has 2007 updates in the rear for pick up points with a 820HP 421" SB2.2 and we can hang with the new Billy Moyer Victory Circles out here in the West once in awhile..LOL....The "black" 96 spindles was the standard GRT front spindle till about 2007-2008..I'm sure there is someone on this board that can give you accurate info on when they went to the "gray" spindle. I'm sure you're on a black 96 ...they did have std and tall spindles..just measure between the upper and lower ball joints and call them...

I can't remember what the distance is supposed to be between underslung and QC bell...But if your rear end has the original 33/35" axles in it, it should have a J Bar at 18 1/4" per Skip....Newer GRT had a 34/35 combo..

Call Skip with any questions he is a little more willing to stay on the phone and talk things through and get you sorted out and on the right track. As nice as Joe and everyone is at GRT, they want product moving out the door,

It's a 95 or 96, I had an early 95 that was 564 I think if I remember correctly. A 2000 would have 1.25" rails under the rear end, not the 1.5" one yours most likely has.

To the OP'er:

Standard rear end's were 34/35 and the offset cars are 33/36 (generally only 2000 and new before then became an option. However back in 95 there was an option for a 1" shorter LR on the STD 34/35 that was 33/35. This was an option thru 97 or so, but not used after the 95 thru 96 years much. The LR 4-link brackets were moved left 1" to make this work on these 33/35 cars.

If you has number 863, it was not a 2001...Our chassis is 1134, double checked it with GRT and they said that 1134 was a late 98 or early 99...They have on their records as # 1145 as the first of the 1999's. Our 98 has the 33/35 axle lengths...#863 has to be 96-97 chassis..

Spindles: If you want to get precise the LF is 10.875 and the RF is 10.125, however they will vary some (as much as .400" that I've measured over the years - all GRT manufactured spindles).

414banger: you can check with GRT but numbers listed by other posters are correct. GRT did not ever start over with numbers, they did skip some numbers but never went backwards. They would assign a number to a car ordered and if the order was cancelled they didn't build one with that number.

They build about 50 cars before they started numbering cars, I have owned several over the years and here are some numbers (appox) for certain years

94 = 134
95 = 354
96 = 500-700+ (They built a lot of car this year)
semi early 99 = 1214

I think you are mistaken or got told something wrong as I'm 100% sure there is no way either of the 2 car numbers you listed could be anything newer then a 98. However the only way to find out is to call GRT. Hopefully if you were purposely mislead on the car you bought, maybe you can get something worked out with the seller.

Good Luck

Unfortunately billetbirdcage is 100% correct...they never started over in their numbering system...there are some shenanigans going on with someone...IMO back to spindles, TWM made spindles for GRT for quite some time also

Does it still have the 16 5/8" LF and 17 5/8" RF lower arms and the long 10" upper arms on the inside of the uprights? Also rear links, 15" lower and 17" uppers with a 1/4" longer on right side?
