I have an '08 Shaw 4 bar car. Am now ( and always have been ) running the standard 22" J-bar and am wondering if anyone is running the shorter straight panhard bar off the left side of the pinion? Car is pretty good on the tacky track but is lacking on the slick. On all my other cars, I have run the short bar and liked the drive they had.
Right now, if the car is good and ballanced through the corner, I have no drive. If I give it the drive I want, it's too loose in... If I tighten entry, it's lose out.
My thought is to use a 15" (ish) short bar going to the outside of the j-bar mount, but I am worried that the car will then be too tight.

Any thoughts?

Anyone? Am going out with the straight bar this weekend, just wanting to know what to expect. Don't know what kind of split/angle to start with.

sounds alot like our '08...try it but i probably wouldn't get carried away with alot of rake, maybe 2-3 inches...maybe k.shaw can give you a better answer....post your results, i'd like to know how it goes..good luck.

How are you giving it drive ?

Adding drive with added LR mainly. Can't add any more angle to LR upper.

Springs, tire pressures and shocks ?Throttle control on slick.Too much pre load in pull bar spring ? Take out rear steer on slick.

Do you have some holes closer to the axle on b/c on lrt or on bottom of b/c that further from axle? If your track usually gets rough, be careful on running that straight bar. You might loose some side bite also with that bar but should be tighter on throttle. We ran 4.5 inchs of rake with a 12 inch bar but this wasn't a Shaw. Best of luck.

Lru in bottom hole on bird cage also. Track stays pretty smooth. I'll see what happens tomorrow. Thanks

Went out with the shorter panhard this weekend. Car was a lot better on entry and through the middle, but felt like i had less drive out. Going to index the LR birdcage and add some angle to the LRU. Any other suggestions to keep the car good in and through but add more drive out?

How is your rear bars set now, tire pressures ? Did you check your tire temps.

Here you go....
At ride height- On Jack stands (full drop both sides)-
LRU-24* 44*
LRL-7* 28*
RRU-19* 35*
RRL-5* 20*
Pull bar(short)-20* bottom hole, centered
Panhard-16* 15" long 4" rake

Tire pressure(KK704,Shaw recommended)-LF 11, RF-13, LR-8, RR-12

Shocks- T-Bone set

Before the race had 15# LR, after hot laps didn't like how low the LR was, added 5 rounds...guessing at about 45-50# LR now.

Birdcages-BSB bearing - LRU-middle hole RRU-top hole

Now that I think of it, good in.. little loose in middle... lot loose out.
Track was very smooth and slick
Medium/high banked 1/4 mile

You have any lead/trail in rr? What offset on lr, moving it out will add some drive, what about springs and pull bar? Dampner shock on rear end, oil or gas?

1/4" RR trail. 2 offs all the way around, 3 off RR. Oil 90-10 shock. Springs....lf-600 rf-650 lr-175 rr-175.
Thanks

Take the trail out of rr to see if that will help. How much preload in the spring? You could take the dampner shock off and that would probably help but its going to loosen entry some. Have you had a chance to talk to Kevin about this?

Try and swap the front springs around. It will tighten entry some and then maybe bring up the rear percent a little. Just some suggestions. Good luck!

I have talked to Kevin a lot in the past...he helped out a lot. My original post was for switching to the straight panhard bar, where they want the j-bar to be used. I ran the panhard this weekend and liked it...just looking for some more ideas now to get more bite.

I am running 1/4"RR preload in the pull bar.

Try running no preload on that spring to see if it makes a difference, then later try a 1/2 preload. Is your pull bar mounted forward/centered/or behind center line of axle? Running rr even with lr helped us on slick. Good luck

I don' t know where the "RR" on the preload came drom on my last post? I do run the pull bar centered. I indexed the LR birdcage (2 rounds in top, 2 rounds out of bottom) to see how much that will help.
what is your experience with lowerong the LR lower? I don't want to change entry...just middle out.
