If methanol was getting into the oil in the motor, would i be able to smell it in the oil?

You would be able to see it. It looks like a newborn baby crapped in the oil pan. Milky cream in color, kinda thick.
Running a 180 Thermostat will help in the warmup process, and have the motor to a good operating temp for a better fuel burn.
180-200 degrees is optimum water temp range to run alky.
If u are running cooler you are going to contaminate oil with alky, and have to change it more often.

You will probably smell alky in the oil anyways especailly if you run caution laps and the motor loads up.It'll be ok unless your oil discolors any then you got a ring sealing issue.Every motor i've ever built or worked on has the smell because engine oil doesn't have much of a smell to start with compared to gear lube or trans fluid.

At the Milky stage its bad . If its just a little green in color engine temp above 175 will flash it off and return it . You need a stat to heat it up quick and likely needs smaller jets.
