CARTERSVILLE, GA – With 15 tracks in five states in action this weekend, Week 7 of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will be a busy one. There will be three races on the schedule for Friday night, and 12 events on the schedule for Saturday night. Drivers will be earning points towards the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Championship that pays $10,000-to-win.

Friday night races at Hattiesburg Motor Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, Malden Speedway in Malden, MO and Penton Raceway in Penton, AL will open the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 competition.

Highlighting the Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 action will be a $1,000-to-win I-20 Challenge Race at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. This will be the first of four races in the I-20 Challenge Series with two races at Whynot Motorsports Park and two races at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS.

Also on tap for Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 action will be events at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.

Returning to action this Saturday night after taking a week or two off are Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA, Deep South Speedway in Loxley, AL, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN will open its 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season this Saturday night.

Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS holds a 30-point lead over Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings. Lawson has 352 points that includes 75 Bonus Points, and Shaw has 322 points that includes 25 Bonus Points.

The 2011 and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS is third with 317 points that includes 25 Bonus Points and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fourth with 313 points that includes 25 Bonus Points. Eight points separate fifth-place through tenth-place in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS point standings.

Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS with 302 points is in the fifth spot followed by Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS in sixth with 301 points. Ryan King of Seymour, TN in seventh with 297 points, and Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA is eighth with 295 points. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS and Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS are tied for ninth with 294 points. The fifth through tenth-place drivers each have 25 Bonus Points.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
