We have a sbc 350, 30 over four eyebrow flat tops, 5.7 rods and 487x heads that are stock valves and 76cc's and a 450 lift bullet racing cam[ per rules],130 lbs compression, cast 4 barrel intake and a built holley 2 barrel. What can we do to make more horsepower out this engine? things like decking the block and shaving the heads? What are some ideas have to make more power out of this combo? the car handles well, we can beat them in and out of the corners but they pull us down the track.

radio controlled car fuel...nitromethane,,,available at your local hobby shop.keep in mind that top fuel cars are limited to 500 ci and on alcohol they make around 1500 hp,,add 85% nitromethane and they go over 7000 hp......i use 1/2 gallon of rc car fuel to 8 gallons of e10,and jet the carb up 8-10 numbers.

We are running rhodes lifters now just want to know if decking the block and heads will make a big difference or a good set of rings ect.... If it were you engine what would you do and get the most out of it.

What are the engine rules? And do you wanta be legal or just pass tech not a tear down?

Compression is the ticket to horsepower especially if you have limited funds.

The engine rules are all over the place, says must be stock but tech says no more than 180 lbs of compression, no vortec heads and 66cc's or more, the guy that wins all the time says he is zero decked and 75cc's, if thats the truth? We can run in and out better than him but he has more motor down the staitaway. I was thinking about his car and his gearing, he is turning 5500 rpm's and final gear is 580's and we are turing 6400 and run a 640's final gear, maybe gear bound?

Any hyd or small solid cam will run 6000 - 6500, and be happy. I call BS on the other guy's numbers. That low a rpm and it would take him a lap to get up to speed, and dont pedal it!
Your compression is too low. Not sure what cam specs are but I would do a leak down test and verify good sealing. If that's the only cam you can run, I would pull the heads, shave them and put a thin steel head gasket. Get the compression higher. There is a guy on here that sells a better intake manifold. It will make a difference. Those two changes you will feel.
Good luck....

Ive won big shows turning only 5500-5600 with a good motor its very do able. I won the ice breaker at talladega last year with a 567 gear and turned 5600-5800 if I went back I would run 633 or 650 most likely and turn 6800 or so. Most everyone else down there had 650s.

It takes a lot more throttle control to run the lower rpm but thats the way Ive been going for the last 3 years. Now we have a new motor rule package more like yours and I turn it some rpm 6800 or so.

My last engine was basicly the same as yours and I had aboutthe same compression as you. Decking ghe block would help with compression but shaving heads and a thinner head gasket would definitely be easier.
If it quits pulling at 6400 you might want try a lil less gear or change cam, springs, or distributor so ya can turn more. Cause if it gets faster its gonna run out sooner.

Our rules sound alot like yours, the max we can and i run is 450/450 hydrualic, 4412 holley stock, GM performance z-28 cast iron high rise, 1" adaptor, stock heads shaved 80 thousandths, 5.7 rods, stock lifters & pushrods, stock deck i think. turbo 350 with 2.56 rear and we are gettin 6000 rpm max with the old low gm intake we ran 5500, i can so say with fact the z-28 cast iron will give you 500 rpm.

LOL Blown Top Alcohol engines are more like 3,500-4,000 hp ....500" normally aspirated Pro Stock engines make more than 1,500 hp on race gas...

our rules are exactly that as you stated deck the block we milled heads to 68cc and just used permatouqe gasket had bullit build cam we get 175 lbs compression motor pulles real strong to 6850 we used 601 final last year this year going to 587 got many feature wins this combo (oh by the way we run 3/8 mile high bank) if your rules also read about cleaning up the bowl do it you``ll love this. using same combo same eng 3 years make sure keep check on valve spings
