Happy Mothers Day from the staff and management of Peoria Speedway! How about topping Moms special day off with some killer UMP racing action as Round 3 of the Budweiser Super Late Model Series is all systems go for tonight. Brian Shirley is the current point leader in the chase for the $5,000 top prize, winning round 2 on April 28 in what has to be an early candidate for "Race of the Year".
Round 2 featured a silde-jobbing, line-swapping 30 lap war on an incredibly well prepared race track. A 4-wide tussle on the front stretch ended the night of youngster Bobby Pierce, who was fighting for the lead. Wes Steidinger and Kevin Weaver battled hard until Shirley took over with 4 to go. Expect more of the same tonight with the weather nearly perfect and not a cloud in the sky.
Rains hit the track on round 1 of the Bud Series at the "Bohlander Tribute" right after the Late Model heats and that event has been postponed until June 3.
Another 30 car Late Model field is expected, and the Late Models will be joined by the UMP Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Speedway Motors Illinois Lightning Sprints and Hornets. Pit gates open at 3 PM, with grandstands opening at 4 and hot laps at 5. Admission is $14 for adults, seniors are $12, with kids 8-15 $4, and under 8 $1.
The Bud Series race tonight kicks off a series of 5 straight special events at the Peoria high banks. This Wednesday, May 16 will be "NASCAR Night", featuring Kenny Wallace, Kenny Schrader, and Justin Allgaier racing UMP Modifieds. Peoria Speedway track points will be awarded.
Next Saturday, May 19 the Lucas Oil POWRi Midget Series returns to the track after an incredible race between Brad Loyet and New Zealander Michael Pickens last year. Saturday, May 26 will be round 4 of the Bud Super Series and a $3,000 to-win UMP "Modified Mania"feature. Friday, June 1 the Ideal Ready Mix 360 Sprint Invaders return to the track.
