Skip Arp schools the field in $3,500 SAS caution free race at Cleveland

By Chris Tilley

CLEVELAND, TN (May 12, 2012)— Skip Arp rolled to a $3,500 victory on Saturday Night May 12th at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN during the 35th Annual Tennessee Memorial race, sanctioned by the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series.

This was the second trip of the season to Ronnie Willkomm’s Cleveland Speedway and with rain looming in the area, a great crowd was still on hand to see the SAS Late Models duke it out for $3,500. Skip Arp would lead the entire distance of 40 laps en route to his ninth career Southern All Stars victory, his first since August 23, 2008 which came at Dixie (GA) Speedway and also became the fourth different winner in four races so far this season. Arp drove the Stanley Best Heating and Air, Tyler Brothers Farm Equipment, Curtis Equipment Sales and Hoosier Racing Tire sponsored GRT Race Car to the win.

Fast Qualifier and Pole Sitter Billy Ogle Jr. would lead the field of 24 to the green flag for the start of the 40-lapper while Skip Arp, who started second, would jump to the lead on the outside line. Kayne Hickman would be the first car to retire on the seventh lap followed by Ross White on lap eight, Brian Hickman on lap 15 and Gary McPherson on the 19th circuit. By the halfway point, Arp held a commanding lead with Billy Ogle Jr., Ray Cook and William Thomas in tow. On the final lap, William Thomas would slip around Ray Cook for the third spot in the final rundown behind Arp and Ogle.

The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will be back in action on Saturday May 26 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS ($3,500 to win) and on Sunday May 27 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS ($5,000 to win).
