May Mayhem Fast Facts

-The May Mayhem event for Modifieds first appeared on the Ponderosa Speedway schedule in May of 2008 and would be sanctioned by the Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series.

-Don Adams of London, KY would squeeze past race leader Benji Lee on lap 28 of the 40 lap event and hold off Lee’s charges to capture the $1,500 payday. Lee would settle for second, with speedsters Kelly Warren, Joey Kramer, and Jason Wheatley completing the top five.

-The 2009 version of the May Mayhem Modified event would again be sanctioned by the Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series and Modified specialist Joey Kramer of Hanover, IN would live up to his billing as the “Rocketman” by dominating the 40 lap event, lapping up to the ninth place finisher. Trailing Kramer at the drop of the checkered flag would be Don Adams, Russ Gabbert, Josh Lucas, and Michael England.

-The 2010 edition of May Mayhem would be unsanctioned and produced a small car count, but would see some great action as Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY would outduel Bryan Barber to become the third different winner of the race. Barber would come home second, with J.T. Ayers claiming third. Benji Lee and Kevin Nesselhauf would round out the top five.

-The May Mayhem event would not appear on the 2011 Ponderosa Speedway schedule.

-The May Mayhem returns to Ponderosa Speedway in 2012 and will be the first half of a doubleheader of Friday and Saturday night action at “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring”. Modifieds will race for $1,000 to win and the Late Models, Sportsman, and Street Stocks will also be in competition.

-A total of 38 different racers have made the May Mayhem Modified events. There have been three drivers that have made all three previous May Mayhem events. Those drivers are J.T. Ayers, Benji Lee, and Jason Wheatley.

-There were four racers that started their first May Mayhem event when it was last contested in 2010 and those drivers were Randall Basham, Miguel Coffey, Doodle Farris, and Jacoby Hines.
