...and 'a Race to see' THIS WEEKEND!!!

The 6th annual Doug Murphrey Memorial Modified race has a total purse of over $30,000 this year! For the first time, it's now a 2-day, $10,000-to-win show because of all the cars that were showing up for the one-day $5000-to-win shows the last 2 years. It also pays $500 to start the A-main but perhaps the 2 biggest -- well let's make it 3 biggest selling points are nothing that I've mentioned so far...

#1 - This race requires NO entry fee! Just a $30 pit pass each night. There's an optional practice night on Thursday with a $20 pit pass. There will be some hot laps on Friday as well.

#2 - A wide, racy, 1/4 mile clay oval....the kind that is 3-wide when it's tacky and 3 and 4 wide when it's dry slick...VERY RACY with a great atmosphere. A warm friendly place that makes it fun to spend the whole weekend at!

#3 - Most importantly, the Murphrey family! Dougie Murphrey and his mother Tina Murphrey along with their sponsors, Bad Boy Mowers, Wholesale Pump & Supply, Barksdale Federal Credit Union and Murphrey Oil Co. set out to make this a special event to celebrate the life of the late Doug Murphrey, Sr., a Modified car-owner and family man from Tullos, Louisiana. They have succeeded in every way and the show just gets better year after year!!!

This is pretty cool! In it's sixth year of existence, the Doug Murphrey Memorial made D. Berggren's Speedway Illustrated! We're stoked! 'Places to be, Races to see.' Take them up on their 'Hot Spot' recommendation this year!

Hotel info:

These are the closest ones. The one in town does not get recommended often. It ain't much of a place.

1. Country Inn Motel (318) 375-4730 1032 S Pine St, Vivian, LA Get Directions countryinns.com

These others are probably fishing camp/lodge types on Caddo Lake. Could go either way as far as 'decent'. They are all about 15 miles from town.

2. Uncertain Inn (903) 789-3292 4335 E Cypress Dr, Karnack, TX Get Directions www.uncertaingifts.com

3. Hoot 'N Holler Guest Cottage (903) 789-3901 724 Cypress Dr, Karnack, TX

4. Spatterdock Guest Houses (903) 789-3268 168 N Mossy Brake Rd, Karnack, TX Get Directions www.spatterdock.com

5. Shady Glade Resort (903) 789-3295 449 Cypress Dr, Karnack, TX Get Directions www.shadygladeresort.com

6. Pine Needle Lodge & Cabins (903) 665-2911 400 Private Road 7805, Jefferson, TX Get Directions pineneedlelodge.com

Nearest 'chain' hotel is

A Budget Inn at 1761 S Us Highway 59, Jefferson, TX 75657 (903) 665-2581 www.budgetinn.com

That one is about 30 min (25 miles) from the track. Jefferson also has about 6 Bed & Breakfast places too but I've never stayed at any of them.

But if you are coming from south Louisiana, or from the east. You might as well as do Bossier City-Shreveport. The track is about 45 minutes from the casinos. Lots of other options.

Marshall, TX is about the same distance away and they have 3 or 4 hotels around I-20 & US 59. If you're coming from Dallas or Houston, those will work.

Another option for Arkansas and folks from the north is the Atlanta, TX area. It's a short ways southwest of Texarkana and about 45 min from the track.

If there's anyone back east who's coming over during Vay-K...

It's about that time to pull out!

Last post on this page about it, if you have any questions, visit our Facebook page.

On the fence? Do me a favor....if you watch just one minute of any of the videos from the all heats, qualifiers and features from last year's DMM that are available on MysticSoccer Channel (Christi Smith of Fort Forth), make sure it's the 2:00 to 3:00 mark of this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fldHmVXkt4&feature=youtu.be

John Whittington (Black #5W) and Peyton Taylor (Bad Boy Mower #01) start back in row 4. Johnny Scott's in the black & green #1ST that takes the early lead. It's at it's best between the 2nd & last caution & between the 2:00 and 3:00 marks of the video...

I wish that last caution hadn't happened. They might have raced like that all the way to the flag!

And talk about a loaded heat! Here's the finishing order: 1. Peyton Taylor #01 2. John Whittington #5W 3. Johnny Scott #1ST 4. Kyle Pleasant #6X (you see the big 'X' on the car) 5. Kyle Cummings #J5 6. Dallas Everett #26 7. Jonathan Cribb #10C 8. Jeff Taylor #5T 9. Chase Allen #30 10. Kevin Clement #32 11. Shane Hebert #9 (DNS).

And all that happened without Shane Hebert who had to scratch with motor trouble after hot laps.

If you like that, see you THIS FRIDAY & SATURDAY at Ark-La-Tex Speedway!!!
