CARTERSVILLE, GA – The battle for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship continues with Week 8 competition featuring 12 races at 11 tracks in five different states. Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS holds a 15-point lead over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS. The Top 10 drivers in the point standings are separated by 60 points.

NeSmith Chevrolet Week 8 competition begins on Friday night with events scheduled at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO and Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. On Saturday night, Smokey Harris Speedway in Haleburg, AL will open its 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season.

Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will present double-feature races on Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models. There will be a make-up feature from a Week 7 rainout, and points from that event will count towards drivers’ Week 7 point totals. The second Greenville Speedway feature race will count for Week 8 points.

Also in action on Saturday night with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition will be Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Lawson has 377 points and Lee has 362 points. Ryan King of Seymour, TN is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 347 points while Scott Ladner of Lumber, MS and Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA are tied for fourth with 343 points.

Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS is sixth with 339 points and Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh with 333 points. Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL holds down the eighth spot with 322 points while the 2011 and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS and Justin McRee of Cottondale, AL are tied for ninth with 317 points.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
