Southern All Stars end month of May with stops at Whynot and Magnolia in Mississippi

HUNTSVILLE, AL (May 17, 2012)—The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series will end a busy month of May with stops to Whynot Motorsports Park on May 26 and Magnolia Motor Speedway on May 27.

On Saturday May 26 the cars and stars of the Huntsville, AL based Southern All Stars will invade Rodney Wing’s Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS for a 40-lap $3,500 to win / $300 to start event, a lone season visit by the SAS Super Late Models. Also in action will be the NESMITH Late Models paying $2,000 to win plus Weekly Racing Series action for supporting divisions. During the 2011 series visit to Whynot, Klint Byars of Calhoun City, MS took home $5,000 during his only career SAS event win.

On Sunday May 27 the SAS Late Models will invade Johnny Stokes’ 3/8th’s mile Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS for the 50-lap $5,000 to win / $300 to start Coca-Cola Governor’s Cup event, also a lone visit to ‘The Mag’ for 2012. Also the NESMITH Late Models will race for $2,000 to win plus Weekly Racing Series for supporting divisions. During the 2011 series visit, Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, GA claimed the $5,000 victory over Chris Wall and Chip Brindle.

Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN, who is looking for his third SAS title in 2012 leads the contingent of SAS travelers into the Magnolia State on Memorial Day Weekend holding a 22 point gap over Friendsville, TN driver Mike Weeks, who is setting his sights on a Rookie of the Year and Championship title for 2012. Weeks claimed the 2010 Volunteer STARS Racing Series Championship. So far, there have been four different winners in the first four events as Jimmy Owens claimed the Shamrock win on April 7, Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN claimed the $5,000 event win at Smoky Mountain Speedway while William Thomas claimed the $3,500 win during NASCAR weekend at the Talladega Short Track and Skip Arp claimed his first SAS win since August 2008 at Cleveland (TN) Speedway on May 12th.
