CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division will begin the Bilstein Spec Shocks “Series Within A Series” on May 26 at the 40-lap $2,000-to-win race at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. Eight drivers will begin the series and compete for a separate $5,000 point fund for the remainder of the 2012 season.

The drivers competing in the Bilstein Spec Shocks “Series Within A Series” will be known as the “Bilstein Bandits” and the top driver participating in the program will receive a cash award of $2,500. The Bilstein Spec Shocks “Series Within A Series” point fund will pay back to the top five Bilstein Bandit drivers.

The second-place Bilstein Bandit will collect $1,000 at the end of the season, while third through fifth will pick up $700. $500, and $300 respectively. Some of the top drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour have chosen to sign up for the Bilstein Spec Shocks “Series Within A Series” and will run the new $135 Bilstein Spec Shock that has already seen success on the race track.

The eight “Bilstein Bandit” drivers that are committed to the Bilstein Spec Shock “Series Within A Series” for the remainder of the 2012 season are Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN, Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, Anthony White of Clinton, TN, Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, Mark Tice of Avon, MS, Justin Summers of Greenback, TN, and Frank Wilson of Harold, FL.

Turner is the current NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division point leader with two top five finishes and six top ten finishes in seven starts. Turner is known as the “Ironman” of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, as he has competed in 131 consecutive series events, or every race the series has run since its inception in 2005.

Gentry is a two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion and is currently second in the current series point standings. Gentry has been the Bilstein Shocks Research and Development driver for the $135 Bilstein Spec Shock, and turned heads by spending less to go faster. Gentry has one win, three top five finishes, and one fast time award on the Bilstein Spec Shocks.

Stokes, known as “Dr. Dirt,” was the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, and has been a Top 10 driver on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour for the past two seasons. Stokes is currently fifth in the series point standings with one top five finish, and four top ten finishes in seven starts.

White is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division point standings with one top five finish and five top ten finishes in seven races. The “Dirty White Boy” also leads the Hedman Husler point standings where drivers earn one point for each position they improve from the start of a race to the end of a race.

Blount is currently ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings and finished in the top ten of the series points chase in 2010. Blount also has one career win with the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour.

Tice has been splitting his racing this season between both the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series. Tice has two wins this season in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS riding on the $135 Bilstein Spec Shocks. Tice has one top ten finish in five starts on the Tour this season, and finished sixth in the Touring points last season.

Summers is another driver that has been splitting his racing between the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour and the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS. Summers is a 2012 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year candidate and has one top ten finish in five starts this season on the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour.

Wilson will be returning to the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour to be one of the Bilstein Bandits after finishing in the Top 10 in the point standings last season. Wilson was the 2007 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series South Region Champion.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Competition Director Tim Sims said there are two additional spots to be filled for the 2012 Bilstein Bandits roster of drivers that will compete for the $5,000 Bilstein Spec Shocks Series Within A Series this season. The Bilstein Bandits will be required to compete with the $135 Bilstein Spec Shocks on each corner of the race car and on the fifth coil.

“We have limited the number of Bilstein Bandits to ten for the 2012 season because a limited number of the Bilstein Spec Shocks have been built to kick off the program, so we will be adding two more drivers” Sims said. “Availability of the Bilstein Spec Shocks to everyone should come by the end of July, as the shocks are currently in production. There will be ten different Bilstein Spec Shocks in the package at $135 per shock.”

The Bilstein Spec Shocks “Series Within A Series” is the latest innovation by NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn in keeping the series as “The Leader In Affordable Dirt Late Model Racing.” Vaughn started the series in 2005 exclusively using the affordable Chevrolet Performance 604 and 602 Circle Track Engines.

“We started the series in 2005 using the Chevrolet Performance $5,000 604 and the $3,000 602 Circle Track Engines, as the cost of super late model engines began to climb through the roof,” Vaughn said. “Now the cost of shocks is getting out of hand, so we began working with Bilstein to mass produce an affordable shock without giving up performance.”

Vaughn announced the Bilstein Spec Shock program at the Annual NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Awards Banquet in January. That got people’s attention, but just a couple of weeks later, Gentry confirmed what Vaughn was selling at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL.

“David Earl Gentry ran the Bilstein Spec Shocks for the first time at our first three races of the season at East Bay, and the second night out he had fast time, and finished second in the race,” Vaughn said. “Then he went on to win the fifth race of the season in Albany, GA. Mark Tice has won two Weekly Racing Series races, Anthony White has won a non-sanctioned race, and Turner and Stokes have also run up front with the Bilstein Spec Shocks.”

Both Vaughn and Sims said the feedback from the drivers that have competed with the Bilstein Spec Shocks has been very positive, and the demand from racers wanting the new affordable shocks has been tremendous.

“Everyone is amazed that they can spend less to go faster with the Bilstein Spec Shocks,” Vaughn said. “One driver said he took $3,500 worth of canister shocks off his race car, replaced them with $675 worth of Bilstein Spec Shocks, and it was like he had a while new and faster race car that handled better than it ever had. My phone has been ringing off the hook from racers wanting the $135 Bilstein Spec Shocks.”
