Hill captures Edge Topless race at Elkins.

(Kerens, W.V. 5-20-12) Another good crowd saw one of the biggest fields of cars and the best racing at the 3/8 mile clay oval it quite a while.

The inaugural race for the Edge Adrenaline Tour for crate motor Late Models saw 20 cars split into three heats. Setting up the lineup for the Elza’s Cycle & ATV 25. John Watson, Daniel Hill and Danny Thomas were the victors of the prelims in the Budweiser crate Late Models.. Hill jumped to the point at the drop of the green with Watson, Thomas, Charles Daugherty and Shawn Jett close behind. As the race drug on, with the yellow rag waving on laps seven, restart, eight, restart, nine, 10, 11, 17 and 20. But when green laps were strung together Hill drove away and hid from the field. D. Thomas did make a late charge, and on lap 22 when Hill pushed high in turn four he ducked under Hill. But Hill driving the Larry’s Western Shop / Perkins Supply #8 was able to turn back the heat and claim the checkers. Derek Rogers climbed from ninth to third. Kyle Thomas moved from eighth to fourth. And Kris Southern finished fifth. Louie Krushansky was the Leggett Refrigeration Hard Charger motoring from sixteenth to sixth.

Jared Hawkins and Paul Wilmoth Jr. grabbed heat wins in the Jenkins Ford Late Models. Wilmoth and Hawkins began a battle up front as the caution fever spilled over to the Late Models. The race was stopped on laps two, five, six, nine, 11, 12, and the restart. As Wilmoth and Hawkins dueled, Tim Senic, Jacob Hawkins and Chuck Harper were fighting for third. On the restart of lap 12, Harper drove into turn two a lttle hot and the right front brake locked sending him up the track and back three spots. Wilmoth was keeping Jared at bay while Jacob Hawkins, Butch McGill and Billy Holbert (from twelfth) put on their own war. As the field came to the checkerboard, it Wilmoth crossing first. With Jared Hawkins second, Senic third, Holbert and McGill fourth and fifth. Although, Wilmoth won in his brother Steve’s car last season, it was the first time that the Afco Shocks, Braeden Drilling B1 sat in victory lane since July 18, 2008.

The Miller’s Used Cars Modifieds were bested by Brent Trimble as he would lead wire to wire for the win. Trimble was involved with a wreck as an innocent bystander last week. But this week he put the H & R Block / David Stanley Consultants #1B on the front chute for pictures. With the win he would present his wife Missy with their wedding anniversary gift, the win. Mike Murphy, Deana Groves, Dave Defibaugh and Vic Vandergrift filled out the top five.

In the Valley Supply Street Stocks, Jim Byers and Chad McLean fought door to door for the final three circuits with Byers edging McLean at the stripe for the checkerboard. J P Tallman, Randy Bohan and Ronnie Tincher filled out the top five. Byers is driving the A &m P Trucking / Sprouts Place #36.

Brandon Fluharty piloting the AAA Homes / Bridgeport Equipment #25 held off a late challenge from Beau Newlon who came from the tail in the Mod Litye finale. Ryan Harris, James Watson and Zak Kimbrew were third through fifth. It was the first ever race for the Mod Lite at Elkins.
