RPM vs Gear vs Distance

I had a guy approach me yesterday and tell me if we run our car in 2nd gear we would get more RPM. Right now we run a 350 turbo in first gear, 2.56 rear in a 7.5 gm and we get 6000 on the end of the straights.
I dont see how you can get MORE RPM within the same distance and same rear gear by shifting to 2nd...doesnt make sense....i could be wrong....any thoughts...??

I think he would still be saying you gotta change the rearend gear, but running outta 2nd gives you more options. If he thinks just shifting to 2nd will give you more rpm, he is an idiot.

He probably thought you were running in 3rd. Most of us race in high 1-1.
