CARTERSVILLE, GA – It’s going to be an active Week 9 of competition for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series during the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend with 14 points paying events at 12 different tracks in five different states on the schedule. This includes three NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring races that will offer Bonus Points to eligible drivers.

Because of the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend, a few tracks will be running on different nights than they normally do, so check the schedule to make sure you go to your favorite NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks on the right night.

This Friday night, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN will be in action, as they team up for an East Tennessee double-header with Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, who will have the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models in action on Saturday night.

Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS will present a two-day show this weekend for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models with preliminary events on Friday night, and the main events on Saturday night.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division will be in action on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS where eligible drivers can earn 25 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points that will be added to their Best 14-Week point totals. Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS can earn up to 100 Bonus Points.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will also be in action offering NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, and at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on Sunday night. All three Touring Division races are 40-laps paying $2,000-to-win.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN will feature a $1,000-to-win main event. Also in action on Saturday night will be Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.

East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL will have double-features for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models on Saturday night. The first feature is a make-up race from a May 12 rainout that will award points for Week 7, and the second feature will award points for Week 9.

Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will be in action on Sunday night and Clayhill Motorsports will have their second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event of the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend on Monday night. Points earned at the Clayhill Motorsports Monday night race will count towards Week 10 competition.

Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS holds a 14-point lead over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings after the first eight weeks of competition in the 27-week season. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is third followed by Ryan King of Seymour, TN and Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS in fourth and fifth respectively.

Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA is sixth, while Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS are tied for the seventh spot. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is ninth and Chase Washington of Houlka, MS rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.

Lawson has already earned his 100 Bonus Points for the season, but the rest of the drivers in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings can still earn another 50 points.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.
