BOYD SPEEDWAY RESULT MAY 25TH, 2012
(Ringgold, Georgia) With the heat of summer just around the corner the fans would set back and enjoy some “HOT” pre-Memorial Day racing. With another full exciting field of cars ready to do battle on the 1/3 mile superbly prepared racing surface. The nights feature event line-ups must first be completed as each division would do battle in their respected class heats. First out would see the B-Hobby division battle in a pair of six lap heats with a pair of newcomers to victory lane #31 Roy Baker take the first and #87 Cory Sanders taking the second. Next out would see the Crate Late Models roll to the starting line and would see Todd Morrow and William Franks be victorious. The ever popular A-Hobbies would be next with Ringgold’s Josh Walker taking heat number one and current point’s leader Booger Brooks winning the second. The Steel Headed Late Models were up next as Cleveland Tennessee’s Lamar Scoggins would put his Richard Austin’s owned #A19 on the poll. Dalton Georgia’s Brian Jackson would join Scoggins on the front row by taking Heat #2. The nights last heat race would see Daniel Burnette take the Front Wheel Drive division heat.

The lineups were set now all that was left was to bring the crowd to their feet to cheer on their own favorite in each of the night’s money race Feature Events. Up first would see the B-Hobby Heavyweights rolled to the starting grid. With the pair of Roy Baker and Cory Sanders bringing the field to the green flag, Sanders would take the early lead. Knocking on his back bumper would be a pair of those “Brooks” with Ronnie and Dallas Brooks now running second and third. Ronnie would make his move early and take the lead on lap 2 with Dallas in tow. A lap 10 pass would see multi- Feature winner Dallas Brooks take the final lead for good and would cruise on to another victory in a caution free race. Following Dallas Brooks across the finish line would be Ronnie Brooks, Corey Sanders, Thomas Gilbert and Roy Baker would round out the top five.

The Crate Late Models would roll into place for their 20 lap Feature as many local competitors were trying to put the final touches on the respected rides a week ahead of the Nesmith Crate Late Model Big Event. With Todd Morrow piloting the #8R of Phillip Baxter he would lead the field to the green from the poll. Starting alongside of Morrow would be Tunnel Hill’s William Franks. Morrow would take the lead from the green flag but would see the field slowed for a lap 4 caution in turn 2 for the car driven by Allan Thomason. This would turn out to be the last caution as Morrow would go onto lead flag to flag for the victory. A late charge by last week’s winner Jeff Smith would come up short followed by Jason Welshan, Grayson York and Jerry Coffman would round out the top five.

It was once again time to bring the A-Hobby racers back to the racing surface for the 15 lap feature. As Josh Walker and Booger Brooks led the field to the green it wasn’t long before the caution flew and flew often. After 3 attempts to start the race from a double file formation track officials determined it was time to place them into a single file order for the next start. Booger Brooks would take the lead on lap 1, but would slow for the caution in turn 4 for his dad #48 Arva Brooks. Once back under green another caution on lap 6 would slow the field for another restart. Brooks continued to lead over Walker then another caution on lap 8 for the second spin by his dad Arva Brooks. Brooks now saw a couple of new challengers in Scott Gravitt and Chuck Cooper making their way to the front, but a lap 12 caution for the 2nd and third place competitors as Walker and Cooper would tangle in turn 4 ending both of their night as both headed to the pits with heavy sheet medal damage. Brooks would go on and take another victory followed by Scott Gravitt, John Clark, Michael Brooks and Steve Tate.

Just as in the A-Hobby division the Steel Headed Late Models had their problems starting the race from a double file formation and also had to be placed into a single file formation after three failed attempts. The race once underway would be slowed 4 times for various spins as Cleveland’s Lamar Scoggins would take the victory. With Dalton’s Brian Jackson making his strongest run of the year as he would finish a close second with Dewayne Powell, Jamie Perry and Andy Miller rounding out the top five.

In the night’s final feature event a welcome party at victory circle was seen as Daniel Burnette would finally take the first victory in the Front Wheel Drive division. Burnette had finished second several times and now finally had gotten the monkey off his back. Following Burnette was James Dykes, Adam Reseigh, Richard Hickman and Steve Boyd.

Next week will see the Nesmith Crate Late Model Series roll into the 1/3 mile clay oval for the first time ever. A great night of racing as the track personnel would have everything completed once again before the 11 pm curfew.
