Furman Parton Notches 1st FASTRAK Win at Cleveland County– After Wild Night, Points Battle Tightens - FASTRAK PR
Lawndale NC (May- 25) In a wild and exciting night at Lawndale, NC’s Cleveland County Speedway , race fans got their money’s worth as a number of twists throughout the evening created storylines no one would have expected once the checkered flag fell on the first night of the 6th Annual $30,000 FASTRAK Triple Crown Much to the delight of fans, Cleveland County Speedway regular, Furman Parton of Union Mills, NC recorded his first win in the FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touring Division. Parton’s popular win marks the sixth different winner in six events to date in 2012.
One of the biggest storylines coming out of Lawndale tonight were the uncharacteristic fates experienced by points leader David Smith, of Inman, SC and Rural Retreat , VA’s Brandon Umberger, who trailed Smith by just one point coming into Lawndale.
Smith would hand grenade his engine on lap 15 of the 40 lap Feature event handing Umberger an opportunity to overtake Smith in the points by a sizeable margin. Just nine laps later on lap 24, Umberger would contact the turn 4 wall thus ending his night.
As a result of the misfortunes experienced by Smith and Umbeger, Lee Cooper of Woodruff, SC now sits third in the FASTRAK City Chevrolet Touting Division point standings just two markers behind new points leader Umberger and one point behind Smith.
The Next stop on the 2012 6th Annual FASTRAK $30,000 Triple Crown will be tonight in the “Commonwealth State” Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat,VA for another $2,000 to win $250 to start racing event you don’t wanna miss!!
