Chad Stapleton Scores McGowan Excavating 40 LC Classic Tune-Up at Lake Cumberland Speedway

Burnside, KY-May 27, 2012- Lake Cumberland Speedway would return to action with a special Sunday racing program, that being the McGowan Excavating 40 LC Classic Tune-Up, and Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, IN would score the biggest win of his career by claiming the win in the race and its $3,000 payday. Other feature event winners would include Joe Godsey of Edinburgh, IN in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman, and Adam Gregory of Gray, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

Aaron Ridley and Chad Stapleton would bring the McGowan Excavating 40 to the green flag with Stapleton immediately taking the top spot, with Ridley, Dillan White, Victor Lee, and Michael Asberry in tow. The front five remained the same as the first caution waved on lap 8 for a spin by Steve Elliott. Back underway, Stapleton stayed in command of the action, while White began to pressure Ridley for second, claiming the spot on lap 14. White would run down Stapleton as the lead duo would catch slower traffic before Elliott would draw the caution flag again when he rolled to a stop in turn one. The restart would see Stapleton and White scoot away from the field, while Asberry pressured Ridley for third. Ridley would make contact with the retaining wall on lap 33 and lose third to Asberry and Ridley would roll to a stop a lap and a half later on lap 35 to draw the caution. The restart would also be null and void when 16th starting Dustin Neat, who had worked his way to the fifth position would spin in turn three before another lap was completed. The final restart would see action remain under the green and Stapleton would drive to the victory aboard his K&L Machining/Jones Core/Rightway Construction/Rogers Bar/The DRC.net/Schaeffer Oil/Frankland Racing Equipment/All Star Performance/VP Fuels sponsored #32 Rocket Chassis powered by a Jay (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)ens Race Engine. White would claim second, with Asberry scoring third, while Chris Combs and Jeremy Hines would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Joey Daniel, Johnny Wheeler, Joe King, Stephen Breeding, and Neat. Twenty-nine entries would utilize group time trials, with Wheeler being the overall top qualifier at 13.532 seconds and earn $100 from the Tateville Volunteer Fire Department. Heat race victories fell to Ridley, Stapleton, and Lee, while Wesley Ball won the B-Main.

Joe Godsey would lead the entire distance and hold a last lap turn three and four challenge from Tommy Bailey to pick up the win in the Modified feature race event aboard his Don’s Auto Sales/ Rightway Construction/Brad’s Brass Flamingo/UB Machine sponsored #X9 Outlaw Chassis powered by a Bill Trantor Race Engine. Bailey would settle for runner-up honors, while Ben Petrey rolled home third. Cameron Marlar and Jeff Rawlings would round out the top five. Completing the top ten would be Jared Reams, Tim Patrck, Stacey Decker, James Jones, and Russell Brinson. Nineteen entries would see Godsey also be the top qualifier at 14.739 seconds, with heat race checkered flags falling to Tommy Bailey, Chad Scott, and Cameron Marlar.

Keith Decker would jump to the lead at the start of the Super Dirt Stock/Sportsman feature event and never look back in picking up another win the division for the 2012 season in the seat of his unsponsored #2. Chad Spradlin would finish in second, with Lee Branscum taking third place honors. Doodle Farris and Richard Price would complete the top five. Ten entries would see heat race wins be taken by Decker and Branscum.

The Front Wheel Drive feature event would see Adam Gregory and Johnnie Adams run away from the pack, with Gregory taking the checkered flag first in his Friends of Coal sponsored #22.
