Maximum Late Models at Hesston Speedmonster/3 State Flyers “Superthunder Road” on June 10

(Hesston, PA) - Hesston Speedway will be the prime destination for late model fans in 2012. The Speedmonster/3 State Flyers “Superthunder Road” on Sunday June 10 pays out over $33,000 and features two powerful late model divisions and over 175 laps of late model racing action. 72 late model-type cars were signed in the pits on the event’s original date before rain washed out the program. “Superthunder Road” on June 10 will be a complete new racing program and any new entries are welcome to race.

The Speedmonster/3 State Flyers Super Late Models and the powerful Semi-Late Model Sportsman will headline the $33,000 event. The Super Late Models will pay $5,100 to win and $400 to start for the 51 lap championship feature. Non-qualifiers will receive $155. Additionally, the top 25 non-qualifiers will receive a $75 Frankland Racing Supply gift card, making non-qualifying positions worth $230 total. TC Race Cars will also award a $50 gift card to the Super Late Model heat winners. 45 Super Late Models had drew for position on May 27.

Matt Parks of Three Springs, PA leads the 3 State Flyer points after 1 event Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills has established himself as a major force in 2012 and is currently 2nd in 3 State points. Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove, PA in in 3rd followed by Jeremy Miller of Littlestown, PA and Brian Booze of Marion, PA. Greg Fetters of Bedford, PA, DJ Troutman of Hyndman, PA, Scott Haus from Hamburg, PA, Matt Lux from Franklin, PA and Devin Friese of Chambersburg, PA round out the top 10 in points. 3-time 3 State Flyers champion Jason Covert currently sits 25th in points after being caught up in an early-race incident at Bedford.

2011 Hesston Super Late Model winners were Jeremy Miller, Ron Delano Jr of Stoystown, PA, Jeff Rine of Danville, PA and Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD. All of those drivers had signed in to race on May 27.

The Semi-Late Model Sportsman rules allow for area limited, steel block and crate late models to race together with weight and spoiler variances. Their 30-lap championship will pay $1,000 to the winner, with $125 to start and $100 for non-qualifiers. A $75 Frankland gift card will be given to positions 8 to 24 and all non-qualifiers for a total of $200 to start and $175 for non-qualifiers. 27 cars had signed in on May 27.

A $200 bonus is being offered to the highest finishing crate late model with a top-5 feature finish at the event. Crate late models will receive a weight break, use of a 12” spoiler and are under the same tire rule as the other weight categories in the class—American Racer 44, Hoosier 15/1300 or harder compounds tires as well as Hoosier FT200, FT400 and FT600 with a minimum 32 hardness.

Tim Smith, Jr. of McVeytown, PA won the opening night Late Model Sportsman feature at Hesston as well as the “Challenger Super Championship” in October. He is the current point leader followed by Rick Singleton of Huntingdon, PA, Dave Leidy of Neelytown, PA, Ralph Morgan, Jr. of Mt. Union, PA and Eric Irvin of Petersburg, PA. Rance Garlock of 3 Springs, PA is the current defending division champion.

The A-Cadets (street/pro-stocks) will race in a full race program with $575 to win, $75 to start and $60 of non-qualifiers. The A-Cadets will compete in a 22-lap championship feature with a 27-minute time limit. Bill Henney of Huntingdon, PA is the defending division champion and was also the winner on opening night. Dave Brown of Hopewell, PA, Boyd Brode of Millcreek, PA, Rich Swope of Shirleysburg, PA and Ken Singer of Roberstdale, PA round out the top 5 in points.

Hobby-Modifieds (pure/strictly stocks) and Roadrunners (fwd 4-cylinders) will race in a feature-only format after the completion of the late model program. Feature laps will be adjusted for higher car counts to give all drivers an opportunity to race to the front. The Hobby-Modifieds will pay $300 to win, $50 to start and $40 for non-qualifiers, with Roadrunners paying $200 to win, $45 to start and $36 for non-qualifiers.

Chad Gambol and Terry Norris are tied for the lead in the Hobby-Modified division, with Gambol being the defending champion and Norris taking the win on opening night. Andy Los, Derek Graybill and Brandie Mills follow in points. Mike Lauffer is the Roadrunner point leader and opening night winner with defending champion Dave Lambert 2nd in points. Andrew Benson, Ryan Claycomb and Garrett Watkins round out the top 5.

Because of the Sunday non-holiday race date, THE ORDER OF EVENTS HAS BEEN MOVED UP 30 MINUTES from the original schedule. The unique order of events at Hesston allow all 5 divisions to compete, while giving race fans the choice of how much of the program they wish to view. The first session will start at 5:00 and will include warm-ups and Cadet heats. The track will be re-worked, and the 2nd session will start approximately 6:45, including the full Super Late Model program with Semi-LM Sportsman heats and consolations and the Cadet feature. The 3rd session will include the Semi-LM Sportsman feature, followed by the Roadrunner and Hobby-Modified features. Fans wishing to see only the Super Late Models may arrive during the track prep break and stay for only that portion, or fans may choose to view the entire 5-divisions of racing.

The new schedule of events for June 10 will still be a 3 session format and will begin 30 minutes earlier since it is not a holiday Sunday:

Semi-LM Sportsman feature followed by Hobby-Modified and Roadrunner features

All rain checks from May 27 are good for June 10. For those who do not hold rain checks, adult admission for “Superthunder Road” to the grandstands is $19.05 + $.95 tax = $20. Junior 10-16 grandstand admission is $14.29 + $.71 tax = $15.00. Children 9 and under are FREE in the grandstands. Pit admission is $34.29 + $1.71 tax = $36.00. Super Late Models will have a $15 entry fee with no entry fee for other divisions.

Hesston Speedway currently requires RACEceiver/Westhold (yellow) or My Laps/AMB (red) transponders for all Super Late Models, Late Model Sportsman, Cadets and Hobby. The track will have a limited number of transponders available for races that do not own one, free of charge through July 31. The RACEceiver/Westhold transponder package including transponder, charger and bracket will be sold for only $230 at Hesston. Race teams without transponders should plan to arrive early to allow time to mount the transponder. All racers that use track transponders must purchase a transponder bracket, available for $10 at the track. All divisions are required to use RACEceiver one-way radios.
