The 'Legendary Hilltop Speedway' opener set for Friday June 22nd!

With the Washington (OH) county occupancy approval received, promoter's Lhan Weppler and Steve Valencourt have cleared the final hurdle required to open the gates in earnest for the 'Legendary Hilltop Speedway'.
While the near monumental rebuilding task will continue for months to come, the semi-banked 1/4 mile track located along Rt 7 between Belpre and Marietta, Ohio has progressed to the point that racing can take place.
The resurrection process for the dirt oval has been a labor intensive one. *The track and surrounding grounds had become a tangle of brush, weeds and small trees, resembling a forest more than a race track. *Bleacher construction requiring county approved architects drawings, a complete replacement of the electric service entrance and wiring, replacement of light poles, guardrails & supports, catch fence, scoring booth replacement and refurbishing of a track gone back to nature were just a few of the major projects that have been or are near completion.
The track was originally built in 1962 by Oran Baker and associates, and was named after Baker's adjacent Hilltop wrecking yard. *While many of the mid-Ohio Valley's top names in racing cut their racing teeth at the track, years of neglect by previous operators and sitting idle for the past decade had left the new promoters little to work with.
Several months of labor have been dedicated to bringing back a track that some old time race fans are saying last looked this good only in it's initial years.
The new promoters have optimized the property's potential by moving the spacious pit area to the south end of the property, and providing a much safer track entrance and exit for the racers. *Fans will be impressed with the refurbished bleacher seating, concreted walkways and handicap dedicated seating areas. *With current general admission seating capacity nearing 1000, the phase 2 completion of bleachers on both the north and south end of the facility will boost seating capabilities to over 1600 spectators in the future.
Friday evening's much anticipated curtain raiser will boast a racing card featuring 5 divisions of cars plus the children's 'mini-wedge' karting class.
The season opener will highlight the TSMA Hot Mod division, with a $500 to win feature event sponsored by Sigler Fabrication of Shultz, WV.
The Hot Mods are an economy modified, running with limitations on compression, carburetion and rear suspension and are required to run a durable spec racing tire.
Joining the headline act will be the AMRA sanctioned Modifieds, along with the Pure Stocks, Mod-Lites and front wheel drive 4 cylinder divisions.
The 'Legendary Hilltop Speedway' will swing the gates open at 4:30 pm for the first of the season's weekly Friday evening programs. *The evening's first race will roll off at 7:00 pm.
General admission ticket prices are $12.00 with pit admission tickets priced at $25.00. *Children's admission tickets are discounted for both gates.
Located at 863 Blue Knob road, just off Rt 7 midway between Belpre and Marietta Ohio, the 'Legendary Hilltop Speedway' is easily accessible with exits off the 4 lane located north, south or directly off the backstretch at Gravel Bank Road.
The new promoters invite everyone to join them as they kick off the season at the newly refurbished speedway, and help celebrate the re-opening of a local racing landmark.
