Greg Schilling Memorial June 29 At Skyline
Over $17,000 purse/ $1,699 to win! $199 to start!

STEWART,OHIO-The 4th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial race racing under the Road Warrior Banner of the American Motor Racing Association will be held Friday, June 29 at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio. Once again race organizers are looking forward to this historic $17,000 purse for the Malta Windows AMRA Modifieds. Joining the Malta Mods on the race card will be AMRA Late Models and Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association Sprint Cars.
Says race organizers Mike McPherson and Kenny Johnson, two talented AMRA veterans, "This race is about people and about giving and helping others as much as it is about racing. Ultimately, we are here to honor Greg and all the good that he stood for."
With its lavish purse and $1699-to-win price tag, the 4th annual Greg Schilling Memorial Race asserts the AMRA as America's "number one" sanctioning body of open-wheeled modifieds. Known as America's Most Competitive Open-wheeled Modified Series, the AMRA sanctions weekly racing series in three states, and plays hosts to one of the most prestigious touring series in its "Road Warrior Tour". The Malta AMRA Series is also known for its healthy point fund and contingencies program.
"Once again we are honored to be hosting this event for the AMRA," said AMRA President Larry Keefer. "Greg Schilling was a great racer and great person. He meant a lot to us and to modified racing in general."
Greg Schilling was one of the early young-guns in the Ohio Valley area when IMCA E-Mods migrated to the Ohio Valley from the Midwest. Greg was a hard-charger and won many races in the Ohio Valley area. Additionally, he later extended his fine talents to the AMRA circuit. Whenever his #99 was in the line-up, it was one car that fans could count on to be a front-runner. Not only was Greg a great racer, but he was a friend to many on the local racing scene. These friends, racers, and sponsors have all come together in a big way to honor Greg's legacy.
"The purse is one of the biggest int he area for the modifieds, due to Billy Jarrell's contribution and the likes of racers, fans and area businesses donating monies," said race organizers Kenny Johnson and Mike McPherson. "All of this makes it a great racing event. But in the end, the race not only benefits the racers with a great purse, we want to to benefit the Greg Schilling Memorial Fund."
"Additionally, we would like to thank Billy Jarrell at Skyline for hosting this event and for contributing so much to a great cause."
Anyone wishing to help sponsor this race can make checks payable to “Greg Schilling Memorial Fund" and mail to: Greg Schilling Memorial, c/o Kenny Johnson, P.O. Box 525, Washington, WV 26181. All funds go towards the purse and all proceeds go to the Schilling fund.
The Greg Schilling Memorial Fund has been established to help families in the Beverly/Waterford area, Schilling's hometown. In 2003, Greg Schilling was diagnosed with colon cancer. He passed away on November 25, 2008. A memorial fund was started in memory of Greg. As this fund grows, money is put back into the community to help individuals or families who are in need of financial assistance. Each year at least one award will also be given to a male and a female graduate from Fort Frye and Waterford High Schools in the form of an academic scholarship.
The Schilling Memorial Fund has helped dozens of local people in need, providing college scholarships for area youth and helping people struggling to get the medical care that they need among many other honorable gifts. "Like we said," noted Johnson. "This race goes far beyond the racing world to help people. It's about people, helping people."
The purse for the event parallels a full-blown late model pay-off, featuring nearly $7500 for the first five positions, The payoff is still the same with 19 cars starting according to one of the organizers: Payoff 1-$1699, 2-$1599, 3-$1499, 4-$1399, 5-$1299, $799for tenth, $299 for 15th, and $199 to start. The "99" at the end of each pay-off position is in honor of Schilling's number 99.
The inaugural winner was Chris Stotts, Shade, Ohio , the second annual event went to Rick Aukland of Zanesville, Ohio and Crooksville, Ohio's Matt Holcomb claimed last year's event.
As always the AMRA wishes to invite drivers coming into the area to stop off at a Saturday night AMRA track. For more information on AMRA tracks, please check the AMRA website. Although Thunder Mountain will have a special event this Saturday, June 23 the Road Warriors will not visit there until July. Further information on that race will be released soon.
` Octane Racing Products will be on board as a sponsor of AMRA in 2012 and will add $1000 to the AMRA National Points fund, again making the modified national points' $5000 to win.
