North Central Arkansas Speedway, 6-22-12 By Scott Ramos
The first night of summer racing at North Central Arkansas Speedway got underway with mid-summer like temperatures, forcing the drivers to adapt to a drier then usual race surface.
The Hobby Stock drivers got the feature races started with Chad Horton and Sherman Bryant holding the front row, and at the drop of the green flag Horton jumped out front heading into turn one and never looked back on the way to his first feature win of the season. Bobby Raulston started inside row two and held down the second spot through much of the first half of the race, but after a door to door fight with Sid Burd for a couple of laps, Burd finally took over the second spot on lap nine only to spin out in turn four on lap ten to bring out the first of two caution periods of the event. With the restart bunching the field, Richard Carson took up the fight for second with Raulston over the next three laps before a spin by Raulston brought out the yellow flag on lap thirteen. The cars got single file after the second restart, with Horton driving away from Carson over the closing laps.
Hobby Stock Final Results: 1)88H Chad Horton, 2)29C Richard Carson, 3)99B Sid Burd, 4)31 Bobby Raulston, 5)49B Sherman Bryant, 6)00B Dan Bolen, 7)T10S Matthew Seaman
David Harris and Shannon Howell led the field to the green flag in the Pure Stock feature race. Howell got his car to the front coming off turn two, but Harris soon got around him and grabbed the lead on lap two as he dominated the race and picked up his first ever feature win. The lone yellow flag of the race flew on lap twelve for a spin by Howell, but he was able to quickly get back into the second spot and hold it through the end.
Pure Stock Final Results: 1)77D David Harris, 2)101 Shannon Howell, 3)17D Shawn Doughty, 4)01J Jeff Henson
The Muilenburg name is synonymous with racing throughout the Ozarks, and it was patriarch Earl Muilenburg pacing the field at the start of the B-Modified feature race. Muilenburg led every lap, surviving a challenge near mid-race from Toby Thomson, who passed him on the outside coming off turn two, but missed the cushion in turn three and slid the back-end of his car along the turn four wall ending his race on lap eight. Charlie Gentile chased Muilenburg the whole event, looking inside a couple times but never got his ride to the front.
B- Modified Final Results: 1)39 Earl Muilenburg, 2)33G Charlie Gentile, 3)0M Tony Myers, 4)24T Toby Thomson

The Super Stock class once again provided some great racing action with the front row of Mike Smith and Joe Davenport leading the field to the green flag to get the event underway. Smith grabbed the early lap one lead, with Curt Cotter and Brent Raulston close behind. Cotter tried every line he could run to try to get past Smith, and Raulston pressured Cotter high and low on the speedway as both cars pursued that of leader Smith, but neither driver could muster enough of a charge to move forward. Cotter would slide too far sideways entering turn three late in the event allowing Raulston into second, but too much distance and not enough laps left in the race meant that Smith would drive to another feature win.
Super Stock Final Results: 1)R65M Mike Smith, 2)04 Brent Raulston, 3)28 Joe Davenport, 4)13 Curt Cotter, 5)48S Joey Vincent, 6) 20C Justin Haney
John Briggs and Jason Snodgrass led the field to the start of the USRA Modified feature, and as the cars crossed the line for the opening lap Briggs held a slim lead over Snodgrass, with Stephan Muilenburg making it a three wide fight at the front going down into turn one. Muilenburg climbed to the top of the leaderboard on lap two, with Briggs and Snodgrass racing side-by-side as they tried to claim the second spot early on. A lap seven spin by Rob Muilenburg brought out the first of three cautions, and Kandy Methvin took advantage of the bunched field on the restart to move up into the second spot, followed by Briggs and Snodgrass who were still locked in a fierce battle over upper real estate on the scorecard. Snodgrass was able to get past Briggs for third on lap nine, just before another yellow flag waved on lap ten, once again for a solo spin by Rob. Snodgrass moved into the second spot as Methvin slowed for a flat tire that brought out the final yellow flag of the race on lap fourteen. Ray Flippin took advantage of the restart following the final caution to move into second, and Rob was able to move around Briggs to claim fourth after swapping spots with Briggs over the final two laps of the race.
USRA Modified Final Results: 1)33 Stephen Muilenburg, 2)16R Ray Flippin, 3)71 Jason Snodgrass, 4)59 Rob Muilenburg, 5)5B John Briggs, 6)78 Rusty Weir, 7)41 Kandy Methvin
With only three Mini Stock cars in attendance, the Hornet class was once again combined with the Mini Stocks for the final feature race of the evening. Stan Jones and Keith Katcher led the field off of turn fur to the opening green flag, but Heath Williams, making his first ever start in a Mini Stock, put his ride out front on the opening lap and led every lap on the way to his first feature win of the season. Katcher challenged several times in the early running, but could never muster a late race challenge for the lead. In the Hornet Division, Rick Roberts and Austin Jones held down the front row with Austin leading Matt Briggs and Coty Campbell across the line on lap one. Briggs was able to pull alongside Austin on a several occasions, but contact with the front stretch wall on lap ten ended the night for Briggs. Over the closing laps, Billy Brabon made a late-race charge on Austin, even briefly taking over the lead on the white flag lap, but contact with the wall slowed his run, allowing Austin and Campbell to pass him before making it to the checkered flag.
Mini-Stock Final Results: 1)8W Heath Williams, 2)23K Keith Katcher, 3)10J Stan Jones
Hornet Final Results: 1)11 Austin Jones, 2)C4 Coty Campbell, 3)52 Billy Brabon, 4)22 Chad Wheeler, 5)7R Rick Roberts, 6)5 Matt Briggs
