CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point races are tightening up as Week 16 competition shows nine races in four states. The top four drivers in the point standings have reached the 14-week mark and will now begin netting points, while drivers behind them are still earning full points.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 action begins with the lone Friday night race at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO. The remaining eight Week 16 events will be contested on Saturday night with two races in Tennessee, two races in Alabama, and four races in Mississippi.

Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 16 events are scheduled for Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.

The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.

Drivers can also earn up to 100 Bonus Points that are added to their best 14-week point totals. NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points can be earned two ways: Drivers receive 25 Bonus Points for each four consecutive weeks of competition, and they receive 25 Bonus Points for each NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division event they compete in during the Weekly Racing Series season.

With some drivers already netting points, and other drivers still earning full points, one of the best ways to see who has Championship potential is to figure out their Weekly Point Average, or WPA. The WPA is calculated by subtracting any bonus points from their point total, and then dividing it by either 14, or the number of weeks they’ve raced up to the 14-week mark. A perfect score is 50.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings with 775 points, and a WPA of 48.20. Lee will be trying to net on a 42 in Week 16 competition. Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA is second with 764 points, a WPA of 47.43, and he will be trying to net on a 40.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 755 points, a WPA of 46.76, and will be trying to net on a 41. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is fourth with 730 points, a WPA of 45, and he will be trying to net on a 41. The fifth and sixth-place drivers still have one more week to earn full points.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 718 points and has a WPA of 47.54. Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS is sixth with 687 points and has a WPA of 45.15. Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is seventh with 681 points and a WPA of 48.42. Washington should climb up the standings, as he can earn full points for two more weeks.

Jeremy Shaw may be eighth in the standings after the first 15 weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition with 644 points, but the statistics show he is a definite title contender. Shaw has the highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 49.45 and he can still earn full points for another three weeks.

While the top eight drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings have already earned their maximum of 100 Bonus Points, there are still six drivers in the Top 20 that can still earn Bonus Points.

Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 637 points, a WPA of 43.23, and he can still earn full points for one more week, plus another 25 Bonus Points. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS rounds out the Top 10 with 625 points, a WPA of 45.83, and he can earn full points for two more weeks, plus another 25 Bonus Points.

There are six drivers in the second half of the Top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings with WPAs of over 45, and four of those drivers can still earn another 50 Bonus Points. Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS is 13th in the standings with 597 points, a WPA of 45.58, and can earn full points for another two weeks, plus earn another 50 Bonus Points.

Duke Palasini of Leland, MS, the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Runner-Up who missed the title by one point last season, is tied for the 14th spot in the points chase with 590 points, but he probably won’t be there long. Palasini has the second-highest WPA of the Top 20 drivers at 49.09; he can earn full points for another three weeks, and also earn another 50 Bonus Points.

Roger Witt of Batesville, AR is tied with Palasini for the 14th spot with 5.90 points, a WPA of 45, and he can earn full points for another two weeks, plus he can also earn another 50 Bonus Points. Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO is 17th with 577 points, he has a WPA of 47.70, and he can earn full points for another four weeks.

Bret Holmes of Munford, AL is experiencing a season that most young men his age can only dream about doing someday. At age 14, Holmes is not only leading the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model points standings at Talladega Short Track, but he is also a National Championship title contender.

Holmes is currently tied for the 18th spot among the 388 drivers that have earned points in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series this season. He has a WPA of 46.50, and he can still earn full points for another four weeks.

Mike Atchison of Eminence, MO rounds out the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings with 563 points. Atchison has a WPA of 46.64 and he can earn full point for another three weeks, plus he can still earn another 50 Bonus Points.
