MALDEN, MO – Week 16 of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series began on Friday night at Malden Speedway with a 20-car field and title contenders finishing one-two. Chase Washington of Houlka, MS in the Jerry Inmon Racing Special took the win over Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA in the J. Dunning Sandblasting and Painting Special.

The 20-lap NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model feature race was cut short by five laps due to rain, but it was over halfway completed to make it an official finish. The eighth victory of the season for Washington gave him 50 points and moved him from fifth to fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 731 points.

Every point counts in the run for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship, and Trosclair, who is second in the standings, made the 520-mile tow to the Bootheel of Missouri from bayous Louisiana to net nine points since he has reached the 14 week mark in his season point total.

The second-place finish and the 49 points that go with it netted Trosclair nine points to bring his 14-week total up to 773 points, two points behind point leader Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS. Lee is expected to compete in a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event on Saturday night, and will be looking to net points on his lowest 14-weekly point total of 42.

Tim Winchester of Gideon, MO drove the Barton’s of Malden Special to a third-place finish, and Robby Moore of Brosley, MO took the fourth spot in the D&K Truck Repair Special. Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN in the TS Race Shop GRT was fifth, and that moved him into the 19th spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.

Jamie Robards of Brosley, MO in the Robards Trucking GRT finished sixth, Steve Tarry of Paragould, AR took the seventh spot in the Image Realty GRT, and Jeff Cagle of Jonesboro, AR in the Cagle Racing GRT was eighth. Jim Gulley of Brookland, AR drove the Gulley Construction Special to a ninth-place finish, and Tim Taylor of Malden, MO in the Taylor Racing Special rounded out the top ten.

Two Top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase finished outside the top ten on Friday night at Malden Speedway, but still moved up in the standings. Roger Witt of Batesville, AR finished 19th in The Chrome Shop Special, but the 41 points he earned moved him up from 15th to tenth with a total of 631 points.

Mike Atchison of Eminence, MO finished 17th, but he earned 41 points, plus 25 Bonus Points for his fourth straight week of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition to move him into the 11th spot with 629 points in the Mike Atchison Body Shop GRT.
