I have beeen wondering why some people say a higher compresson shock tightens you up on exit and others say a softer compresson tightens you up on exit. which of these are true and why?

It depends on what your trying to accomplish. Also what type of car are you running? I.E. Amod, Bmod, Stock Car, Leaf, Coil??

Stock car coil spring car. The only difference is we are not allowed to move lower control arms up or down.

A stiffer compression and easy extension shock, I.E. 6-2 valving will typically work better when your on a wider sweeping corner and you want weight transfer back to the LR to be a little slower. This will allow the car to settle on to the RF longer and keep your RR loaded in and through the middle of the corner. Then when you get back on the gas somewhere near the apex of the corner the car won't hit the LR so hard and it will allow the car to exit straighter. Now if your on a hard on hard off type of track or tight corners, I wouldn't recommend it. Then the tie down type shock would prevail.

The reason I am asking is I had read in a book that a stiffer compresssion would spike the cross % momentarily and tighten the car up. Then I have read in my race wise booik that a softer copmression would allow the weight to transfer back to that wheel faster and tighten the car up. I just thought that was obviously contradicting no matter what track you are running on.
