NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 18 competition will also be held on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

There is a logjam at the top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings as drivers battle for the $10,000 championship and the Top 10 points fund-paying positions. Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA holds a two point lead over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS. Just 28 points separate the Top 5 drivers in the point standings.

Trosclair has 783 points, a Weekly Point Average (WPA) of 48.79, and will be looking to net on a 40 point race, the lowest in his best 14-week season total. Lee has 781 points, a WPA of 48.64, and will be looking to net on a 46.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 775 points, a WPA of 48.21, and will be looking to net on a 40. Ryan King of Seymour, TN is in the fourth spot with 772 points, a WPA of 48 and will be looking to net on a 41.

Greenville Speedway regulars Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS are fifth and sixth respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase and both drivers will be looking to net on a pair of 41s in the double feature races this Saturday night. Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 717 points, a WPA of 44.07, and will be netting on a 25 as looks for his third win of season in Week 18 competition. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is eighth with 700 points, a WPA of 46.15, and has one more week to earn full points before he reaches the 14-week mark of his season.

Jeremy Shaw is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase, and is a strong title contender with the highest Weekly Point Average among the Top 20 drivers in the standings at 49.25. Shaw has 691 points and still has two more weeks to earn full points. Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS rounds out the Top 10 with 687 points, a WPA of 45.15, and one more week to earn full points.

There are four drivers in the second ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings with WPAs of 45 or higher that still have at least two more weeks to earn full points, and move up into one of the Top 10 points fund-paying positions.

Bret Holmes of Munford, AL is 12th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 664 points, a WPA of 47 and two more weeks to earn full points. Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS is a Greenville Speedway regular that is tied for the 14th spot in the standings with 647 points, a WPA of 45.58, and two more weeks to earn full points.

The 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Runner-Up Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is 16th in the standings with 640 points. Palasini is once again a strong title contender, as he has the second-highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers at 49.09, and he has three more weeks to earn full points.

Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO is 20th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 618 points, A WPA of 47.09, and still has three more weeks to earn full points before he reaches the 14-mark of his season.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.

The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.

These engines are in stock and ready for free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
