BOYD SPEEDWAY RESULTS 7-27-2012
(RINGGOLD, CHATTANOOGA) With 2 weeks off due to the rain Mother Nature had blessed us with many wondered if people had forgotten their way to the speedway. It didn’t take long for fans and racers alike to settle back into the groove and get down to the business of dirt racing. The nights first preliminary heat saw Jimmy Smith and Dallas Brooks lead their respected B-Hobby competitors to the checkered. Next out would bring a full field of Crate Late Models for two heats. Craig Burrows would take the first over Elbert McCullough and Jason Welshan and in the second and final Crate Late Model heat Birmingham’s Chris Mullinax would take the victory over Grayson York and Soddy Daisy’s Jerry Coffman. The A-Hobby’s rolled out and in the first saw son Booger Brooks take the victory over his dad Arva Brooks and Chad Anderson would capture his outside pole position for the nights feature over Michael Brooks. The star studded field of Steel Headed Late Models rolled out next and in the first of two super competitive heats Ringgold’s Kevin Gibson would lead Cleveland’s Riley Hickman to the checkered. And in the second “The Tiger” from Tiger, Georgia Ethan Hunter would lead Lamar Scoggins to the black and white checkered flag. The last of the nights heats saw Daniel Burnette take the victory.

It was now time to get down to business as the racers were ready to compete for the top prize in each respected class. The “Heavyweights” B-Hobby’s rolled to the front for the 15 lapper. With a pair of past winners leading the field to the green Jimmy Smith would take the early lead, but only briefly as the yellow would fly before the field had completed a lap. It would take three tries before the field could get a lap under their belt. Several early cautions would slow the field as Jimmy Smith and Dallas Brooks would continue the battle for the top spot. A late caution of lap 13 would see the #26 Jason Reed retire to the pits and would set up a green-white-checkered finish. Jimmy Smith would take a hard fought victory over Dallas Brooks, Thomas Gilbert, Boonie Gulett and Michael Chapman.

The Crate Late Models were called to the line from their pit stalls as the 20 car field was lined up on the front stretch. Craig Burrows and Chris Wilson took the field to the green flag from the front row. An early caution would take out two competitors before a lap could be completed as the rides of Jame Breland and Corey Underdown would retire to the pits. Chris Wilson would lead flag to flag for his first victory of the year at Boyd Speedway but a track inspection at the scales would prove costly for him as the tires he had chosen were too soft. This would hand the victory over to Elbert McCullough followed by Craig Burrow, Jason Welshan, Jerry Coffman and Chris Mullinax.

The A-Hobby Division was up next. The multi-winning Booger Brooks would start from the pole once again after taking the first preliminary heat race. He would take the lead over Chad Anderson at the drop of the green and would never look back. He increased his lead as the two began to work lap traffic. Brooks would take yet another victory over Anderson, Michael Brooks, Steve Tate and Chuck Cooper.

With 21 Steel Headed Late Models ready to do battle they were called to the line. With one of the best fields of the year on hand in the Steel Headed Division to compete which included drivers such as, Kevin Gibson, Ethan Hunter, Lamar Scoggins, Riley Hickman, Bobby Mayse Mike Tinker, Kayne Hickman, Brian Hickman, Jay Scott, Roger (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)son, Billy Mayo, Mike " The Headman" Head, Mike Weeks and more including our only female competitor of the evening Stephanie Powell. As the field was lined up for the start the first heat runner-up Riley Hickman would fail to make the call to the start with mechanical problems. At the drop of the green Kevin Gibson would take the early lead, but it wouldn’t take long for Cleveland’s Lamar Scoggins to race into the runner-up position. Gibson would find the top side of the track to his liking and would allow Scoggins to battle from the bottom. Scoggins would pull up to the door several times in the center of the corner, but was never able to overtake Gibson with all that momentum from the top side. Gibson would take the victory over Scoggins by a car length and would be followed by Ethan Hunter, Bobby Mayse, and Brandon Armitage.

In the nights last feature James Dykes would prevail over Daniel Burnette in the FWD Division. Next week the S.R.R.S. SUPER LATE MODELS will bring the best of the best to the 1/3 mile clay oval for the $3000 to win.
