CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will move into new territory for the 2013 season, as Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX will bring America’s Leader In Affordable Dirt Late Model Racing to the Lone Star State by signing on with the series.

Dirt Late Model drivers at Battleground Speedway will compete for both a track point fund and against drivers throughout the country for a $20,000 National point fund that pays $10,000 to the champion and pays back through the Top 10 in the point standings. A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals make up their season total, plus up to 100 Bonus Points.

“We’re excited to bring the affordable and highly competitive NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series to Battleground Speedway and to the State of Texas for 2013,” NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn said. “This shows that the popularity of the series continues to grow and spread out geographically, as it will enter into its eighth season next year.”

The growth Vaughn spoke of is evident in the current 2012 season, as over 400 drivers have competed in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned event at tracks in five different states. Through its seven-year history, NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events have taken place at 60 different race tracks in 13 different states.

Battleground Speedway, located just east of Houston, will become the 61st different track to sanction with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series, and Texas will become the 14th different state the series has competed in.

Battleground Speedway presents weekly dirt track racing on Saturday nights. The track is owned by William “Red” Walley, promoted by Jeff Dudden, and Dave Cook is the Competition Director.

"Red, Jeff, and I talked about starting Late Model racing here at Battleground Speedway a few months back,” Cook said. “I have been to Talladega Short track, and seen the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series in action. I told Red if we are going to do it.....these are the guys we have to do it with.”

Cook said the group contacted Vaughn and NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model series, General Manager and Competition Director Tim Sims, and Sims came to see them and meet with the drivers. They all concluded this is the right thing for Battleground Speedway to do.

“The fans want weekly late model racing back here in the state of Texas, and along with the NeSmith Series we are going to give it to them in 2013,” Cook said. “We are committed to the drivers, and fans to bring late model racing to Battleground Speedway, and keep it affordable! Now as Competition Director, and Jeff as promoter, we have to go to work, secure a sponsor for the class, and establish a fair purse for the drivers in 2013, but I know we will get it done soon."

In just a couple of days since signing the agreement between Battleground Speedway and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series, Dudden went to work on securing a sponsor for the new Late Model Division, and added, "Battleground Speedway is happy to be on board with the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series, and looking forward to working with the series and racers for a very successful 2013 racing season."

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.
