Steve Francis Still Fourth in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Points Heading to North/South 100 this Weekend!

ASHLAND, KY (August 6, 2012) – Steve Francis of Ashland, KY wrapped up the month of July on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour with four events.

On Friday and Saturday, July 20th and 21st Steve and his Barry Wright Race Team participated in the LOLMDS-sanctioned Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE. Steve ran in the second spot for a majority of the race until Scott Bloomquist got by him with five laps to go in the $26,000 to win event won by Brian Birkhofer.

Steve and the team then traveled 1500 miles to the states of New York and Maryland to wind up the month. Steve visited Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY on Tuesday Night, July 24th in front of the largest crowd in the history of the track. Steve would finish a disappointing 16th in the final rundown.

The next night the team headed to Utica-Rom Speedway in Vernon, NY. Steve would set fast time for the night and start on the pole of the 50-lap $10,000 to win event. Steve would eventually come home in the sixth position. The team then headed to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD after the event at Fonda (NY) Speedway was cancelled due to bad weather. Steve would again set fast time and start on the pole of the main event.

Steve would lead early on until Don O’Neal passed him for the lead. Steve and O’Neal then put on a terrific battle for the top spot as Steve would regain the lead from O’Neal, but O’Neal would emerge from the exciting battle to retake the lead from Steve who crossed the line in second behind O’Neal.

Steve is still fourth in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings behind; Jimmy Owens, Don O’Neal and Scott Bloomquist.

Steve and the Barry Wright Team now head to Florence Speedway in Union, KY for the 30th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil. There will be an open practice session on Thursday Night, August 9th. On Friday Night, August 10th will be Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Red Buck Cigar Time Trials. Then on Saturday Night, August 11th will be Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 100-lap $50,000 to win and $2,500 to start event.
