Jason Hughes Rides Momentum to Ninth Win of 2012
Westville, Oklahoma (8/07/12) – Jason Hughes continued his mid-season momentum in his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Gressel Racing/Hughes/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified by claiming the $4,000 payday on Wednesday evening at Buena Vista Raceway (Alta, Iowa).
Fresh off a strong podium performance in the 2nd Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship Jason resumed the 2012 season with the Casey's USMTS on Wednesday night at Buena Vista Raceway (Alta, Iowa). The $4,000-to-win program saw twenty-six competitors in action, and via his heat race Jason earned the eleventh starting spot for the main event. Hughes slowly reeled in the leaders after starting in the 11th spot. With nine laps to go he moved into third and then a late-race caution set up an exciting six-lap sprint to the finish.
Hughes worked his way around Ruter for second with four laps to go and then passed Phillips for the lead with three laps remaining. Jason went on to claim the win, which came over Terry Phillips, Dereck Ramirez, Ryan Ruter, and Daniel Hilsabeck. The victory was his ninth of the season!
The Casey's USMTS National Championship tour took Jason and Hughes Motorsports to Mineral City Speedway (Fort Dodge, Iowa) on Thursday night for another $4,000-to-win event. With twenty-eight entries in the pits Jason advanced from the seventh starting spot to a fourth place finish in his heat race to lock into the ninth starting spot for the finale. In the feature he advanced six spots on his way to a third place finish behind race winner, Ryan Gustin, and Ryan Ruter.
Jason concluded a three day swing with the Casey's USMTS National Championship tour on Friday night at Cedar County Speedway (Tipton, Iowa). Thirty Open Wheel Modifieds were on hand to chase the $4,000 top prize, and via heat race action Hughes locked into the ninth starting spot for the feature. In the main event he would fail to move forward as he recorded a twelfth place finish in the final rundown.
Jason is currently second in the latest Casey's USMTS National Championship standings and Hughes Race Cars continues to lead the Tiger Rear Ends Manufacturer's Championship points. Full results from the event and the latest standings are available at www.USMTS.com.
Jason now turns his attention to the USMTS Hunt for the Casey's Cup, which begins this Thursday, August 9th at Valley Speedway (Grain Valley, Missouri).
