Brian Birkhofer Bags $10,000 for Tornado Tuesday Win; North/South 100 Ahead

(MUSCATINE, IOWA) After a disappointing ‘USA Nationals’ weekend at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin, Brian Birkhofer got back on track in a pair of special events in his home state of Iowa earlier this week. Brian recorded his fourth feature win of 2012 on Tuesday, August 7 at the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa. The Muscatine, Iowa ace ran second in heat race action prior to winning the dash, which landed him the pole position for the ‘Tornado Tuesday’ main event. Brian then grabbed the lead from outside polesitter Don O’Neal shortly before halfway and led the rest of the distance in the 50-lapper to claim the $10,000 triumph over Chad Simpson, Billy Moyer, Chris Simpson, and Billy Moyer, Jr.!

A day earlier, the #15b team was in action at the Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, Iowa on Monday for the ‘Dirt Late Model Magazine 50,’ which was sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. Brian laid down the sixth quickest lap during the qualifying session and later ran third in his loaded heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the fifth row in the $10,000 to win feature event, “Birky” drove past four competitors during the 50-lap race en route to a steady sixth place performance behind only winner Darrell Lanigan, Clint Smith, Don O’Neal, Rick Eckert, and Billy Moyer. “We didn’t have the weekend we wanted to at Cedar Lake, so it was nice to rebound with a good run at Independence and a win at West Liberty,” stated Birkhofer yesterday. “Don (O’Neal) got the jump on us at West Liberty, but our car kept getting better and better and I was able to get by him for the lead just before the halfway point. The track was in great shape and it was awesome to see all of those Birkhofer shirts in the stands. I can’t thank all of my fans, sponsors, and supporters enough and hopefully we can continue running strong this weekend at Florence.”

The Birkhofer Racing team will now turn their sole focus to the 30th Annual ‘North/South 100’ at the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on August 10-11. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will preside over the crown jewel extravaganza and a whopping $50,000 payday is on the line. Qualifying will take place at the Cincinnati-area oval tonight, while heat races, consolation events, and the 100-lap ‘North/South 100’ are all slated for Saturday evening. Brian has made one trip to Florence this season, as he finished a solid tenth in the annual ‘Ralph Latham Memorial’ back in early June.
