Knowles Wins The 2nd Annual Jerry Goodwin Challenge At Talladega Short Track

Eastaboga, AL (August 25, 2012) – The Fans and drivers filled the venue at TST to honor the "World Famous Jerry Goodwin" for the 2nd Annual Jerry Goodwin Challenge. All divisions were packed as well as the stands. The Goodwin/Mullinax family held a Silent Auction with all sorts of Alabama, Auburn, Davey Allison and a host of other Race Car Driver memorabilia. Raising well over $3,000 to be place with appropriate organizations to help beat cancer. Purses were elevated by the Goodwin/Mullinax family along with Legacy Environmental Process and NeSmith Chevrolet - Mike Vaughn to make this a evening that everyone attendance would remember.

A new track record was set in the Super Late Model Division by Dingus Griffin of Alexandria, AL, for fast time with a 13.085, beating Shane Clanton's track record of 13.145 set on October 30, 2009.

The Super Late Models ran a 38 lap event to honor Jerry Goodwin. Edge of the seat racing for this division with three and four wide racing. Starting in the pole position was Dingus Griffin, front row inside, and Tim Busha of Boaz, Al front row outside. Starting second row inside was Todd Marrow, Jake Knowles second row outside. Starting out of turn four, Griffin and Busha had a strong battle, Griffin lost a tire, that took him to his pit area. After a restart of the race, Knowles and Busha battled over first place, Knowles took over the control of this event. Through out the event, Knowles drove hard to hold off Busha. When the checkered flag came out the fans were on their feet. Knowles was smiling all the way to celebrate on the front streatctch to thank the Goodwin family, his crew, sponsors and to show his appreciation to his fans. Second place winnings went to Tim Busha, and third place to Todd Marrow of East Ridge, TN.

Dallas Cooper took home the winnings from the Sportsman Division, 2nd place went to Adam Cummings and 3rd place to Josh Adkins.

Montana Dudley claims his 1st win of the season in the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Division at TST, 2nd place to Bret Holmes and 3rd place was claimed by
Carlton Freeman.

In the Thunder 92.7 FM Thunder Car Division, Eric Smith took home the 1st place winnings, 2nd place Zack Shelton and 3rd place went to Billy Bright.

Taylor Gowers claims another win in the Dorsey Supermarket Hot Shot Division, 2nd place winnings went to Taylor Gowers and third to Cruz Skinner

Andy Davis takes 1st place in the Ponder Agency Farmers Insurance of Oxford Street Stock Division. Jeff Honeycutt 2nd place and third to Russell Chapman.

Talladega Short Track will be back in action on Saturday, September 22, 2012 with the regular weekly divisions (no OWM). This will be the 2013 Ice Bowl Qualifier, on this same night, there will be Double Feature for the NeSmith Dirt Late Models, each feature event for the Crate Late Models will be a points event.
