CARTERSVILLE, GA – Hurricane Isaac and its remnants have greatly affected NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 23 competition. There are still four races that are a go for Saturday night action, and the two NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division races for Bonus Points on Saturday night and Sunday night are still a go.

Saturday night Week 23 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events are still on the schedule for Albany Speedway in Albany, GA, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS.

Both Greenville Speedway and Pike County Speedway have received heavy rains from Hurricane Isaac, and track officials will be making decisions in the morning as whether or not they will be able to have a Saturday night race. Check the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series web site at www.nesmithracing.com or the track web sites and Facebook pages for further updates.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division $2,500-to-win 7th Annual Coca-Cola 50 on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS and the $2,000-to-win Black Ice 40 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS are still a go as of Thursday evening. Each event will award 25 Bonus Points for eligible Weekly Racing Series drivers.

Rains and flooding from Hurricane Isaac, and the forecast of both from its remnants has forced cancelation of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 23 events on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS and Malden Speedway in Malden, MO, as well as Saturday night events at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN and West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS holds a one-point lead over Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA. Washington has 795 points and will be trying to net on the lowest weekly total of 49 from his best 14-week total. In other words, Washington has to post a 50-point win to net any points for the five remaining weeks of the season.

Trosclair has 794 points, and will be trying to net on a 48. Trosclair, who lives just Southwest of New Orleans, loaded up his racing equipment before Hurricane Isaac arrived on Tuesday night and headed for higher ground to wait out the storm in an effort to race this weekend.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL and Ryan King of Seymour, TN are tied for the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 790 points apiece. Shaw will be trying to net on a 47, and King will be trying to net on a 48. Duke Palasini of Leland, MS is fifth with 789 points and will be trying to net on a 47.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 786 points and will be trying to net on a 48. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh with 781 points and will be trying to net on a 47. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is eighth with 775 points and will be trying to net on a 46.

Bret Holmes of Munford, AL holds down the ninth spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 767 points and will be trying to net on a 44. Robby Moore of Brosley, MO rounds out the top ten of the points chase with 760 points, and will be trying to net on a 41.

All of the drivers in the Top 20 of the point standings still have a mathematical chance to finish in the top ten points-fund paying spots of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase in the five remaining weeks of the 2012 season. The remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series week-by-week schedule has been updated and posted at www.nesmithracing.com on the Weekly Racing Series web site.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.

The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.

These engines are in stock and ready for free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA. The Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engine is on sale for $5,095 and the Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine is on sale for $3,195 at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
