8th Annual Iron-Man Classic/Border Wars Weekend set for Oct 12/13 at Lake Cumberland
SOMERSET, KY (September 1, 2012)—Iron-Man Classic founder and promoter Chris Tilley has announced details of his eighth edition running of the special event for Super Late Models.
This year the event will be two complete races (8th Annual Iron-Man Classic/Border Wars Weekend) to be held on Friday/Saturday October 12/13 at the Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY. The Super Late Models, sanctioned by CT Promotions will compete for $3,000 on Friday Night October 12th and compete for $5,000 to win on Saturday Night October 13th. The support classes of Open Wheel Modifieds, Super Dirt Stocks and 4-Cylinders will be competing each night. Details of event purses, gate times, gate prices, entry fees and rule specifics will be released in the coming weeks.
Founded in 2004 as a yearly special event for the area with a unique format for Super Late Models, Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY claimed the first win and $2,000 during the Coca-Cola sponsored event at Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, KY. Rain would win the 2005 edition of the Classic and Chris Combs of Isom, KY would claim the $2,000 prize in 2006 at Mountain Motor Speedway and back up his victory with a $5,000 payday in 2007 also at Mountain Motor. With ownership change at the Isom, KY track in 2008, the event was moved to Richmond (KY) Speedway while Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would best a field of 36 entrants to take the $3,444 prize. In 2009 the event was moved back to Mountain Motor Speedway with Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY claiming the $2,000 win. In 2010, Shannon Thornsberry of Martin, KY would claim the $2,000 prize at Mountain Motor Speedway while in 2011 the event was moved to the Buckeye State and Jackie Boggs would claim the $5,000 event win in August at Southern Ohio Speedway.
