I have water in 3 cylinders (# 4,6 and 8)on my 418. Brodix alum heads and stock 400 block. All cylinders are still pumping 175psi compression. just trying to figure out what it could possibly be. I know nothing about engines and I'm just trying to get an idea before I pull it and send out. (which won't be for a few months because the engine builder is backed up)

Cracked block, cracked head, head gasket. Is the engine running? Does it smoke out out the header when it is running or only at start up?

Best bet here is to perform somewhat of a leak down. Remove the rad. cap and fill rad. Then one cylinder at a time, bring the cylinders up to top dead center and use your compression gauge hose ( besure to remove the schrader valve in the end) to apply air to each of the cylinders atleast 100psi. Check for bubbles or water being pushed from the rad. this will indicate which cylinder/s that maybe be affected. Then pull head off and perform a visual diagnosis.

The engine won't fire now. Probably because the cylinders are full of water. I never noticed it smoking. Ran my heat race on Friday and car got hot(250 degrees) and went out in the feature and it was running like crap so I pulled off after 2 laps. I will try that leak down test tomorrow after work. Thanks

Don't waste your time doing a leak down or any other tests. The engine is hurt and needs to be gone through.418ci with aluminum heads in a stock 400 block will give you trouble as long as you own it

perfconn, is correct, get another block.

That's the plan. I just ran the stock block a few races this year to get my feet wet. Really didn't crank the engine too much. Had to many other issues. What is a good block to put my internals into?

Dart SHP is the best deal but I prefer the Little M

I have the PBM block, 4 BOLT on all the caps, engine builder really liked it, taking it to the engine shop soon and will let you know how it looks inside, ran it 7300-7400
