CARTERSVILLE, GA – There are four drivers still in the running for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship with four weeks left in the 2012 season. They better bring their respective “A” Games, and get up on the wheel because put simply, they have to win in each of the next four weeks to stay in the fight.

The battles for the title and the Top 10 points fund-paying positions are beginning to come into focus. There are also 24 drivers still alive to earn NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Top 10 points fund-paying spots and a seat at the banquet table in Dawsonville, GA.

Week 24 of the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will see ten races this weekend at seven different tracks that includes three tracks hosting Double Feature events, and one track featuring a $1,000-to-win race.

Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS will present Double Feature races this Friday night with the first feature being a Week 20 make-up race, and the second feature being the regularly scheduled Week 24 event. Malden Speedway in Malden, MO will also present a Week 24 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event this Friday night.

Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS and Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS will each have Double Feature races this Saturday night. The first feature at Greenville Speedway will be a Week 22 make-up race, and the second race will be the Week 24 event. The first Pike County Speedway race will be a Week 23 make-up race, and the second race will be the Week 24 Kade Lavron Memorial Race.

Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will present the $1,000-to-win I-20 Challenge Race this Saturday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models. Also hosting Week 24 Saturday night races are 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN and West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.

Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 796 points based on his best 14-week point totals of 11 50-point wins, two 49-point second-place finishes, and one 48-point third-place finish, plus 100 Bonus Points.

If Trosclair can get a 50-point win in three of the next four weeks, he will earn a perfect score of 800 points. Trosclair is the only driver in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings that can reach the 800 point mark. Trosclair holds a one point lead over Chase Washington of Houlka, MS.

Washington has 795 points represented by nine 50-point wins, five 49-point second-place finishes, and 100 Bonus points. If Washington takes a 50-point win in each of the four remaining weeks in the season, he would net on four of those 49s and can earn a possible 799 points.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL, Duke Palasini of Leland, MS, and Ryan King of Seymour, TN are tied for the third spot in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 790 points apiece. Based on finishes they can still net on in the four remaining weeks, Shaw and Palasini are still alive for the title.

With a 50-point win in each of the four remaining weeks of the season, Shaw will net on a 47, a 48 and two 49s that would bring his best 14-week season total to 797 points. If Palasini can win four 50-point races in the four remaining weeks of the season, he would net on four 48s, and bring his best 14-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season total to 798 points.

King will be trying to net on two 48s and two 49s over the next four weeks, and if he wins out, his best 14-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series total would be 796. That would tie Trosclair’s current total, but Trosclair would win the tie-breaker with more 50-point wins. Trosclair and Washington have clinched Top 10 spots in the standings.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 786 points, and will be trying to net on four 48s for the remainder of the season. Four wins in four weeks would bring Lee’s best 14-week total to 794 points.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 781 points. Arnold will be trying to net on two 47s and two 48s, and can possibly earn 791 points. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is eighth with 775 points and will trying to earn 787 points by netting on a 46, two 47s and a 48.

Bret Holmes of Munford, AL is ninth with 768 points, will be trying to net on two 45s, a 46 and a 47 to bring his total to 785 points. Bubba Harrison of Cleveland, MS and Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 768 points apiece.

Harrison will be trying to net on a 44, two 45s, and a 46 that would bring his best 14-week total to 781. Jordan will be trying to win out and net on a 43, a 44, and two 45s that would bring his best 14-week total to 784.

Other drivers in the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase still in the running for a Top 10 spot are Robby Moore of Brosley, MO, Kyle Berry of Portageville, MO, Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, TN, Daniel Bridgemon of Meridian, MS, Marty Calloway of Maynardville, TN, Scott Ladner of Lumberton, MS, and Roger Witt of Batesville, AR.

There are also eight drivers outside the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings that can win out and still have a chance to finish in the Top 10.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL, Thomas Lewis of Hamilton, GA, Hunter Carroll of Columbus, MS, Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN, two-time series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS, Mark Tice of Avon, MS, Tait Davenport of Benton, KY and Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN all have a mathematical shot of earning Top 10 spots in the final four weeks of the season.

The remaining NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series week-by-week schedule has been updated and posted at www.nesmithracing.com on the Weekly Racing Series web site, and is updated each day as necessary.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series compete against each other using a points system that counts their best 14 week point totals, plus up to 100 bonus points, over the 27-week season. They are competing for a $20,000 point fund that pays back ten spots at the end of the season. The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn a $10,000 top prize.

When a driver reaches the 14-week point in their season, they begin netting points by attempting to replace the lowest weekly point total in their 14-week total with a higher one. The points system for fields of eight or more cars is 50 points to win and one point less per position back to tenth. Drivers that finish tenth on back receive 41 points.

The points system for fields with less than eight cars pays 40 points to win, and one point less per position back through the seventh spot. Drivers that attempt to compete, but don’t start the main event receive 25 points. Drivers can compete in as many events as they can each week, but only their highest event point total counts for that week.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.

These engines are in stock and ready for free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA. The Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engine is on sale for $5,095 and the Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine is on sale for $3,195 at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
